Description:
1973 Buick Riviera GS
Buick Riviera 1973 GS Stage 1. Positraction differential. Only about 3200 were made. Cragar wheels. The car has no title, but it has all legal paperwork from the WA State Patrol and the WA Licensing Department that I received in February 2017. It has the collector's lisence plate. You can legally own it, fix it, drive it, the title according to WA state RCW will be available in 3 years counting from February 2017. Please double-check with the Licensing Dept. before buying it.More about the title - I bought the car at a junk yard, they themselves bought it at some auction. They did not have a title, and they said I'd need to get the car to the WA State Patrol for visual inspection and to confirm it's not on a stolen vehicle list. I did it (February 2017), the WA State Patrol officer inspected it, both VIN number and the engine number, they were ok. Please see pictures for the XA stamping on the engine (meaning it's a Stage 1).
Then I went to the Licensing Dept. with the paperwork from the State Patrol. I paid a couple hundred dollars to get a collector's plate and other charges and taxes and they said that according to the WA Code, I could get the title in 3 years after the inspection. But it's legal to own and drive it, the car is officially mine.
It's an authentic all original Stage 1 GS car. Like I said the original engine was confirmed during the visual inspection at WA State Patrol. The alternator does not look like it's original though, I guess it was replaced at some point.
Disclosure.
The car's body is in a very good shape, however there are couple of visible rusted-through spot. On the driver side - in the windshield's pillar base where it attaches to the body there is a 1/2 inch hole, and under the battery - a strip of metal (a non-structural cross-member at about the bottom of the radiator) rusted through.
There is also rust in the back seat floor, but it's covered with carpet and I cannot tell it it's rust through or not, not holes are visible. The rust spot is visible from the outside, see pictures.
Other than that it's just the surface rust here and there. Paint on the roof peels off somewhere, needs repainting, however it's not visible in pictures.
The headlights, front blinkers, side markers don't work. The front wire harness has been damaged, however, I have another good wire harness (also from Riviera 1973), and it'd take about two hours or so to install it. The rear lights (brake, turn signals, side markers) work fine, as well as other electrical stuff (power windows, radio, etc).
The interior seats had been vandalized (before I bought it), so there are cuts and rips on them. Also something's happened to the master brake cylinder recently and the car currently has no brakes (other than the parking brake), so you will need a trailer to tow it away. The engine starts and runs great, I used to drive this car, and the transmission shifts nice and smooth. I am selling because I have no time (too busy at work), and my garage is way too small to work on it. The car has been garaged all the time I owned it, but it is huge and takes the whole space in the garage, so I could only work on it in good weather when I rolled it outside.
Hate to let it go, but for the past year I haven't had a change to work on it or drive it (except for a trip to the WA State Patrol), so it's time for someone else to take care of this great car.
Only serious buyers, no tire kickers please.
