Description:
1994 BMW 8-Series
So where do I begin. For those of you familiar with the 8 Series BMWs, this may be repetitive. This is a very special BMW from my personal collection. I am not a dealer. I own two 850 CSi's. The first thing to note is that there were only 225 CSi models imported to the United States over a two year period (1994 and 1995). It is believed that there are about 190 left on the road. This car is a very early VIN car (#12) and was used for the Detroit Auto Show which is why you will notice the factory pinstriping on the side of the car. I have owned the car for 10 years. With the introduction of the new BMW 8 series, the interest in these cars has risen dramatically and rightly so. These cars were way ahead of their time and were the top of the line BMWs during the 1990's. The list on this car when new was $108,000 (about $175k in today's dollars). They were also the first production V12's with a 6-speed manual transmission. CSi's should not be confused with the 850Ci variant. The CSi's were originally planned to be the "M" version of the 8 series. For some reason, this changed prior to final production though the cars were built by the M division of BMW. You will find many signs of this. M logo on the kick panels, BMW Motorsports on the door handles, M logo on the gear shifter and the traditional blue and red M stitching on the steering wheel.
In addition, the V12 displacement for the CSi's was increased to 5.6L along with a corresponding increase in HP to 375 (vs. 322 for the 850Ci) as well as an increase in torque to 410 ft.lbs (vs 360 for the Ci). This engine block was actually later used by McClaren in their F1 engine.
These cars were also way ahead of their time from a technology perspective as they were one of the first cars to use electronic drive-by-wire throttle control as well as an integrated networking system linking the cars components. CSi suspensions were also stiffer than the Ci's and through the use of CAD modeling, they were able to achieve a remarkably low drag coefficient of 0.29.
So now that you have a little history on this model, let me tell about this car. It is in amazing original condition. There have only been two modifications to the car. It has Brembo front brakes and a Sprinter Magnum Exhaust system from the cats back. Everything on this car works perfectly. Ice cold A/C, 95% plus tread on all tires, all power accessories (windows, seats, mirrors, etc.). This is a get in the car and enjoy it vehicle. I bought the car with 77k miles on it ten years ago and it has about 82k miles now. It has always been in climate controlled storage and driven a few hundred miles each year (around state inspection time).
I am retired and getting a bit too old to keep up with my collection so its time to let other folks get the same enjoyment I have had from these cars. As you can see from my feedback, you can bid with confidence. I have never had an unhappy buyer and have sold a number of cars in my collection over the years on ebay. I have a recent clear Carfax available to any who request it which will also confirm the original miles.
Bidders with no feedback will need to contact me before bidding.
