1973 Automatic Walk-through Baywindow Bus

More than a daily driver, this '73 automatic was the sole work truck for over 5 years for my landscaping business, hauling plants, supplies, and debris many miles every day in the Florida heat. On weekends she was a produce delivery van. Then we moved and she turned into a 50+ mile a day commuter in the mountains of Northern California. Never once have I had an overheating issue with this bus in almost ten years but I've always been kind to it.

Part solid bus and part project bus, the 2.0 L engine was rebuilt a few years ago and runs strong, with oil changes every 1,500 since I've had it. Transmission works great and shifts through all gears automatically, front disk brakes recently replaced, recently replaced Weber carb, new Goodyear Wrangler tires and new muffler. Exhaust needs work but works. Everything could use work but works. The point is she was running solid for me for 7+ years with minimal needed repairs and has been garaged for the last year. Still turns over, runs, and drives. This is absolutely a bus that you can drive around in legally today. The driver and front passenger seats both have belts. The back bench has belts. The driving lights work, signals work, switch recently replaced, CA smog exempt.

All of the doors open from at least one side. The torsion springs on the rear hatch have been cut but the hatch opens shuts and locks. Working jalousie windows with screens in the mid-section, passenger window works fine, driver's window is rigged but works and is easily fixable. Doors lock. The interior needs work; the paneling has all been removed, the middle bench seat is gone, and the overhead ducking is badly ripped. The interior was basically gutted. The floor is mostly solid in front and back. She's never seen salted roads and the undercarriage is solid. This would be a perfect base for a custom-built camper. A/C is ready to go in most regards and may work, I have the compressor but never installed or ran it.

Some surface rust but mostly solid body. Some chew holes under the windows and windshield (the rest of the nose is clean,) the dog legs, the battery tray; the usual suspects. I have not painted it beyond my company logo (a giant ayahuasca vine splashed along the driver's side) in the near-decade I have had it, so there is no hidden rust lurking at this point. What you see is what you get. The worst of the rust is shown in the photos.

I absolutely do not want to sell this bus, but we have a massive tax bill this year and also we may be moving back to Florida. I need money and she deserves to be in California; there hasn't been a new spec of rust on 'er since we got here.

This is an "as-is" sale. This bus was running great for me a year ago and still sounds great when I turn her over, and has done great the bit I've driven her around the farm this spring, but I'm not making any guarantees as to ship-shapeness and would definitely recommend a tow initially to get her where you're going. Having a mechanic look at things before daily driving or an epic road trip would not be a bad idea either; it's been a minute.

More than pleased to answer any questions about this bus during this auction. No returns accepted.
