Description:

1987 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon

1987 VW Westfalia pop-up Vanagon with completely new custom interior and off-grid ready!
One-of-a-kind custom "TECA" interior. The hard to find TECA interior is highly sought-after because it gives an extra seat and TONS more closet space. This interior was just built in 2017, and features an extra passenger seat (without seat-belt), a huge extra closet, wood laminate flooring, a custom-made pine counter-top, and custom curtains. Counter lifts up and has sink and stove beneath.
Solar power is up and ready-to-go! Van has two 100 watt panels mounted on roof, solar charge controller (so batteries don't overcharge), and remote monitor system. Also includes two 12v battery bank plus separate starter battery and 1500 watt inverter (big enough to power almost anything). Much of the electrical system has been redone and includes battery isolator (this switches power from the starter battery to your battery bank whenever the engine is turned of, so the starter battery doesn't drain and is always ready to go), added electrical outlets for both battery and shore-power, new auxiliary fuse box, battery switches, new Optima battery, and LED interior lighting.
Don't worry about vanagon's unreliable fridges, this unit has a brand new SMETA fridge and a toaster oven hidden in the under-sink cupboard. Another add-on is the dual battery charging set-up. Whenever you are plugged in to outside power the charger will automatically charge both the starter battery and the entire battery bank.
Also includes NEW propex heating system with thermostat (purchased new in 2017 for $750). This is the most recommended heating system for camper buses as it vents and draws air from outside, allowing it to safely run all night long with no fire or gas danger. Also has a solid-steel rear bumper (typically costs around $600) and custom made step behind driver's seat)to allow access to top when it is pop-up (see photos)
Van runs great, is reliable, and is used as a daily driver. Entire shifter has just been rebuilt with ALL NEW PARTS, so shifts great. All new coolant lines installed in September ($450) as a preventative measure, so should run great for a long time.
Other mechanical work put into it in 2017 including:
New valve cover
New instrument cluster light
New air filter, fuel filter, spark plug wires, and distributor cap
New engine cylinder compression seal
Repaired rear hatch locking mechanism
Repaired exterior electrical hookup
New carbon monoxide alarm
New fire extinguisher
New headlight relay switch
New rear strut
Well-taken care of van, with tons of custom-work put into it, this is ready for off-grid, across the USA road trips. Comes with lots of extra parts, feel free to email or text for more info. Manual transmission.
90,000 miles on original engine(ODOMETER QUIT WORKING FOR A WHILE BEFORE BEING REPAIRED, exact mileage is unknown and the title will reflect this).
Dove blue exterior, exterior does have some scratches and scuffs. Exterior propane tank and fittings have been replaced and are less than 5 years old.
Tires are in great shape and we will include a free set of almost new studded snow tires. Includes rear snap-in bug screen, and original front and rear curtains.
This van isn't perfect and some things that will need attention include:
It is missing the radio, I had the wiring all professionally restored and labeled in September, so it should be an easy job to put a new CD player/radio in.
The mesh screen in the pop-up window has some tears and will need replaced or repaired.
The A/C system seems to work fine, but will need recharged with more freon. Living in Colorado it was cool enough we never needed it.
The rear passenger quarter panel has some scratches/surface rust (as you can see from the picture) from previous owner.
The panel on the inside of the sliding door is starting to get a little loose, buyer may choose to screw it down tighter.
I am missing the key to the exterior water tank-fill. Tank can still be filled directly from the inside, or a new key purchased.
Latch is broken on bench seat, does not interfere in any way with opening, closing, or folding seat down
The mechanic said the CV boots would need replaced and quoted $200-$400.
