Description:

1961 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 220S

This is a vintage 1961 220 SB W111 fintail with tan on black color combination which goes beautifully with the beautiful light brown interior. Own a beautiful example of automotive history. This car is in such good condition that you can begin using it as a daily driver on day one without worry. This fintail drives solid and rides smooth. The car was a California car most of its life. The speedometer shows 67,000 miles. Engine and transmission are in excellent condition. Original 1961 had drum brakes. We have upgraded it with early MB disc brakes for safety. The steering is very responsive. The carpeting was recently replaced in a beautiful tan color with an authentic mercedes benz texture. All wood work is beautiful on the dash as well as the windows. The original upholstery is in superb condition and has no rips, ears or cuts in the seats or door panels. The headliner is intact with no rips or tears. There is no rust on the car. It runs and drives very well. 4 speed manual transmission on the column. The electrical system works throughout (including interior lights- radio-clock-cigarette lighter). All new shocks and new steering. It has new motor mounts. All the bushings in the steering have been replaced. It has had a major tune up. It has an original Becker Europa AM-FM radio with a functioning electric antenna which Mercedes began offering in 1960. The radio has been refurbished by Becker in New Jersey. The Kuhlmeister air conditioner works perfectly and blows very cold (less than 40 degrees F). I will make myself available to assist you in shipping the car to your location. Shipping is not included. The car is sold as is with no warranty. Please call if you have questions. 214-717-7742. The car is also for sale locally and if sold this auction will be suspended. I grew up in the backseat of a fintail when my dad was stationed in Germany. He and I went to Stuttgart in 1962 to pick up the classic beauty. It was virtually identical to the model that I am now selling. I have several classic fintails and storage is becoming a challenge. There fore I am offering this one for sale. Look for more later on in 2015. A bit of history: The Mercedes-Benz W111 was a chassis code given to its top-range vehicles, ncluding 4-door sedans, roduced from 1959 to 1968. The W111, as initially attributed only to 6-cylinder cars with 2.2-litre engines. Mercedes-Benz emerged from World War II as an automaker in the early 1950s with the expensive 300Adenauers and the 300SL roadsters that gained it fame, ut it was the simple unibody Pontons that were the volume models. Work on replacing these cars began in 1956, nd the design focused on passenger comfort and safety. The basic Ponton cabin was widened and squared off, ith larger glass area improving driver visibility. A milestone in car design were front and rear crumple zones that would absorb kinetic energy from impact. The automaker also patented retractable seatbelts. The exterior was designed for the European and North American markets. The body was modern and featured characteristic tailfins that gave the models their nickname — the fintail (German: Heckflosse). In summer 1965, roduction was terminated in launch of the new Mercedes-Benz W108 sedan. A total production of the 220Sb - 161,119. Mercedes-Benz opted to continue producing the W111 as a new model 230S. The 230S, ecame a flagship model of the Mercedes mid-range cars (predecessors to today's E-class).
