1989 Mercedes-Benz 190-Series premium

Up for sale is my absolutely STUNNING 190e Mercedes. I had plans to do some personal touches to it, but I'm out of time and storage space so sadly I have to sell it. This will probably be the one I regret moving on from :(
You hear "the pictures don't do it justice" a lot, but in this case, that is absolutely true! It is in absolutely AMAZING shape for a vehicle that is 28 years old. Not "concours" quality or anything like that (it has its flaws that I will document below and you can see in the pictures) but pretty incredible for its age (hence why I originally bought it). Even people that "know" cars, and just the general person that wanders into the garage can't believe how nice it is.
Taking its age into account The 190 in my opinion is ~ 9/10 on the exterior, and 9/10 on the interior. And if we are scoring under the hood, I'd put it at a 9 as well. Other than the driver seat (see photo) the interior looks like it's a few years old, and well-maintained. Exterior? I can't find a dent on it. Maybe a more discerning eye could, but you'll have to look hard! Paint also feels like glass; super smooth. The underside is equally impressive (see underside photo), with only a small section of repaired exhaust showing beyond surface rust (uncanny for a vehicle in the North East). I have posted photos up with some descriptions to provide details on what to expect if you win the auction in terms of the flaws, But here are some details/more items:
Exterior flaws
- driver headlight surround is yellowed (see photo)
- tops of mirrors show wear (see photo)
- trim tops of the doors show paint wear (see photo)
- some wheel rubs, paint swirls and little paint imperfections but VERY MINOR
Interior flaws
- driver's seat is worn (see photo)
- the button for the parking brake release is missing.
- map pocket on back of driver seat a little saggy
- cruise stalk seems a bit "floppy" (not sure if it affects its performance, I have not tested it)
Engine bay flaws
- missing battery hold-down
- missing insulation on hood's underside
- some paint missing from valve cover (but it doesn't look bad because it's a dark material underneath)
Mechanically, I really don't know much about my 190 other than the person that I bought it from was METICULOUS about having it serviced, and used an independent Mercedes specialist to do so. I know the engine always had BG MOA used in it, and I would say for its age, it is in great mechanical shape, at least from a novice's opinion. It doesn't leak anything on the ground. When I performed the oil change I had the lower valence off and there are no weird leaks, or anything that looks out of sorts for a 28 year car. In fact I'd call it "excellent" shape from a visual standpoint.
The only other maintenance that I have personally done to the 190 besides the oil and Mahle filter is a brand new NAPA battery. it starts right up, and the engine runs quietly. No exhaust leaks that I can hear. Goes into all gears with no issues and into reverse as it should. Steering feels good! However, this is an older car that hasn't had a lot of miles put on it recently. So I would urge the new owner to take it to a specialist and go through it to make sure everything is good! A "tune up" and/or a general multi-point inspection would be wise, to make sure it is up to spec. Here are the known issues mechanically:
- The brakes are VERY spongy. I feel that the components are good, but a fluid flush and fill is in order.
- The fuel filler door is supposed to unlock when the doors are unlocked. It does not so you need to open with the latch in the trunk (common problem)
- pieces of the exhaust are a bit rusty. It looks like a portion of it was repaired, and was a lower tubing/clamp. It doesn't leak, but it isn't in nice shape like the other pieces of the exhaust (see photo).
Thank you and happy bidding!
