1979 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
Presenting for Your Motoring Pleasure: a 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL with 126,000 original miles. This car stands out overall as one of the cleanest, ost original cars we have ever seen.Cars have numerous areas and systems that make up the "whole" essence of that car: body + fender, rive train, ndercarriage, hrome, ody rubber, nterior, onvertible top etc. We are very appreciative of garage kept cars, ecause we notice that systems like body rubber, aint, nd even chrome has less sun and weather damage. This car fits into the category of a garage kept car, ue to the overall freshness of many items.Excellent appearance aside, his car drives like new. Front suspension + steering, nbsp;engine response + sound track, ransmission shift points + shift quality and rear axle system all exhibit as-new driving characteristics. We could go down a list of typical W107 front squeaks, ear clunks, lipping shifts, nd engine maladies that crop up with high miles and/or needed maintenance. This car suffers from none of this. It is tight, esponsive, uiet and smooth. Our drive and test sessions were filled with moments of appreciation and amazement at the speed and agility of W107 cars in general, his one in particular. Even parking is entertaining, ue to the compact size, xcellent steering, nd proper visibility from the large glass area. All mechanical, lectrical and climate control systems are up to par. The airconditioningblows strong cold air. Both power windows operate like they should. The interior is stunning! The special real wood grain and leather wrapped steering wheel (with matching shift knob) are just superb.A car is original only once.Full owner's manuals and stamped service books, riginal paint and low miles make for an investment quality car. The original Mercedes-Benz alloy wheelshave been replaced withpristine chrome aftermarket wheels(see photos). Not as visible, ut of utmost importance: a rust free body structure. The car is pristine underneath. While driving we take note of engine temperature, il pressure and other gauge readings. It is important to note that during our testing and driving sessions with the car, oolant temperature readings were very stable, ven during our standard gear ratio tests that definitely take the car to beyond any level that the average driver will see. Part of our testing involved a German Factory Trained Mercedes-Benz Technician, ho knows EVERY nut and bolt in this car, or example. Short of putting this car on a proving ground test track, which we simulate on the road) every aspect of the car was put to the test and evaluated. We took the car to Coach Craft in Lexington, Y to have a new convertible top added. Coach Craft is the best. Check them out online. We could spend additional time expounding on the positive attributes of this car. However, his is where we stop to point out a few flaws in the Masterpiece. The dash does exhibit a small amount of cracking due to age. Small spot of clear coat missing from trunk lid. While the flaws are not obtrusive, ue to the value of the car, t is important that potential buyers have absolutely clear and accurate information about each portion of the car.Included with the car are additions we have purchased: Hardtop, ercedes-logoed seat covers, ercedes-logoed cockpit cover (a great add-on, o easy to put on for daily basis use), ar cover, ardtop stand (if purchased locally - already assembled); Mercedes-logoed license plate frame, ercedes-logoed key tag w/ two keys.In summary, e are LOVING this car. Sentiments like "we should keep this one" can only be put to rest by bidders meeting the reserve price.
