1965 Ford Mustang

This 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback was dispatched from the Dallas plant on January 22, 1965 and was optioned with a 289 cubic inch V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor, Rangoon Red paint over a black vinyl interior with a 3.00:1 rear axle and a 4-speed manual transmission. In 2005 it was the basis for this nicely built GT350 R-model inspired road and track car you see today. The car was built in Los Angeles by an ex-parts manager from a Ford dealership. He began with a very straight and solid A-code fastback and sourced a new-old-stock 302 cubic inch Mexico block. From there, high-performance internals were used and everything was balanced and blueprinted. Tall Cobra valve covers and a correct cobra oil pan was used. To handle the power, a four-speed top loader transmission, hi-performance clutch and Hurst shifter were selected. A heavy duty Ford 9" rear end with 3:89 axle ratio was used. The brakes are discs in the front and 11" drums in the rear. Koni shocks all around were used and traction bars were added to the rear. For the outside an R-model look was created. This included Wimbledon White paint with blue stripes and Torque Thrust style wheels. The rear quarter windows are riveted aluminum, the hood and front apron are fiberglass while the rear window is plexiglass. The interior includes a roll bar, full complement of gauges and a wood steering wheel.
