1949 Willys CJ3A

Up for grabs is my 1949 Willys CJ-3A. This thing is a bit of a beast.
It's got a small block chevy 350 mated to a SM465 and Dana 18 transfer case. The engine is a stock 350 from a 1987+ Chevy. There is a dual plane 4bbl intake and Holley 4150 style 650cfm carb. It has an HEI distributor, CVF racing front accessory drive kit, powermaster alternator, and 2.5 inch collector rams horn exhaust manifolds. The engine runs decently, however it has a tendency to overheat. I believe it needs a fan shroud for starters, however I'm not exactly sure what is causing the overheating issue.
The front axle is a fully rebuilt dana 44 that was NOS and then modified to be the right width for the jeep. It was done by a professional shop, and has a lunchbox locker with disc brakes. The rear axle is out of an FJ62 Toyota Land Cruiser and has drum brakes without a locker. The gear ratio is 4.10. I had custom driveshafts made by Driveline Service of Fresno.
The frame is a stock CJ-3A frame that I boxed front to back.
The suspension is a spring-over style leaf spring set up on rear Jeep YJ stock heigh springs all the way around. The rear springs are outboard from the frame. The shocks are Bilstein's.
There is a Vega power steering box from Speedway with a crossover steering drag link. This is a huge improvement over stock. I have an aftermarket tilt adjustable GM style steering column with turn signal switch. The pedals are out of a Jeep XJ and hang from the firewall. This puts the brake master cylinder up on the firewall rather than below the floor for better serviceability. The clutch is hydraulic and the master cylinder is also located on the firewall. The firewall itself is reinforced with 1/4in thick plating to keep it from flexing.
The wheels are brand new from 4 Wheel parts, they are 17 inch by 8 inch steel wheels. They are a 6x5.5 lug pattern all the way around. The tires are 37x12.5r17 Toyo's with about 50% life left and a little bit of dry rot. The spare tire is a matching wheel but with a 35 inch tire.
The wiring is a universal painless wiring kit that I have mounted up behind the dashboard. All of the lights on this Jeep work, including turn signal and brake lights. The off road lights are controlled by a seperate AuxBeam control panel mounted on the roll cage above the driver. There is also a USB charger in the center console that is waterproof (from a boat). Speaking of the center console, that is a vintage ammo can that I added cupholders to and is relatively waterproof and very convenient.
The rollcage is from Bent Motorsports and was custom made for a flat fender. It has built in mounting points for the front and rear seatbelts. The seats themselves are bucket seats from a side by side and are pretty comfortable, however if you're on the taller side you may need to adjust them back as the leg room is very tight.
Overall the Jeep is pretty solid, but needs some work. If you really want to drive it around you'll need to figure out the overheating issue first and foremost. Other than that it'll need some light tinkering, adjusting the pedals to be more comfortable, tuning up the engine, adding a windshield, etc...
Hopefully this Jeep goes to someone with more time than me to make it the off road and cruiser that I know it can be. This thing is ready to take some abuse off road!
I have a clean California title in my name as well as current registration with no back fees.
IT IS AN OLD VEHICLE, I MAKE NO WARRANTY ABOUT THE MECHANICAL CONDITION. PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO AND MAKE SURE THIS IS RIGHT FOR YOU BEFORE BIDDING!
