1941 Willys
Up for your consideration is a 41 Willys rat rod coupe . While thinking of building Willys #21 I was looking at the glass shell i had in the back yard along with the steel parts i had left form 30 years of building these cars when I got the call from my daughter .Up in Richmond Maine at a yard sale out back was an old Willys gasser that was crashed real bad . She took a pic and sent it to me informing me of the lady selling out to move away, after her husband passed . Few pics later and talked to the women and i was on my way to Maine :) 34 hours later the hulk was on my trailer headed home.Later o, after talking to the son about the car he informed me of the info on where his grandfather actually bought the car . Seems the grandfather bought the car out of upstate NY from 2 brothers that raced it after buying the old car from a well know drag racer . He built a drag car and on his first outing rolled the car and it slid down the track on the rear of the roof basically ripping the back of it off. The grandfather set it our back and left it there for it to rust away. The father died unexpectedly and the mom and the son had to sell out to make a move closer to her family .
So i get this wreck home and start banging out as much as i coul, I used a cowl i had along with the window frame area from the coupe mounted on a real nice 40 chassis i had . Called around to the sheet metal gasser gods and got prices on the back half of the roof made in metal and like really lol . So if old drag cars used glass fenders and doors and such why can't i use the back half of the glass body in my back yard to fix up a steel car .
So the car is a steel car with steel doors and fenders and deck lid and everything else other than the back half of the roof WTF right . I had the frame blaste, mint , built up a 57 pontiac rear, NEW brake, axle, 308 posi mounted on new rear leaf spring, front axle is a NEW WAC tube axle with a 2" dip . ford spindles and brakes all new of course along with new front springs (secret sauce ) i know that lift it 2 " more than stock . A new master set up under the floor and you have a complete new rolling chassis that will take a pounding .
The interior got a set of those buckets you see for sale everywhere lo, they are new and comfortable live with it ? Tuck n roll door panels and behind the seat , headliner from who knows mounted up there good enough 4 me . Series 60 B&M shifte, old SW gauge, seat belt, 4 point cag, dig the functional gas pedal from an old drum se, yes it is what you use to wack the throttle . All new tinted glass and channels rubbers etc .
So i took a 331 HEMI had it bored to i think 3.97 with a bunch of old parts from a top fuel friend and with the 5/8 stroked crank and the Childs & Albert rods connected the the Venoila Fuel pistons pistons you have a 421 CU IN HEMI . To get the set up to run and make power i had to run the blower 30 over :( Florida don't like 30 over blowers or any other heat pump for that matter lol . I had to drop the blower to 6 over to keep it from heating up and that is where it is no, better choice would be a higher compression piston and less blower speed . It runs good but doesn't make the big power it should IMHO . The blower is a story on its ow, it was built by Ohio George for the S&S race team back in the day . I called George to confirm this and he notes the front and rear gear carriers which say "Montgomery " are in fact his and don't come up to often . There is a S&S number stamped on the blower but he couldn't tell me whose car it was originally fo, bummer .The custom made 2.5 " fender well headers are a work of art on themselve, they were HPC coated back in the late eighties and still look top notc, I know I built them lol .The motor is full of all the best parts from hot head, stainless valve, spring, blower ca, hyd. lifters on triple 5 head, timing cover BBCH water pump hidden alternato, MSD electonic dizzy with a bo, yada yada yada lot of $$$$$ here .I attached the motor to a 2 spd powerglid, reverse valve body race ready transmission with a 2500 stall converter and again to a POSI olds /pontiac rear .
Took about a year or more to put it together but here in the south it don't make a good car to cruze in the heat and I refuse to make it one of the sissy cars lol . Would make a good drag ca, go figur, but I really don't have time for that for the last few years or decades :) I would consider something like a 56 57 vette would be my first choice but a something pro touring LS powered air conditioned mobile i would consider . I use yahoo for my mai, gassa underscore garage , shoot me pics and info on what ya got ,
I do reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time and obviously the car is available for serious buyers to come check out . Look the pictures over please before asking questions .
