Description:
1970 Volvo 164
This is a 1970 Volvo 164, acquired about a year and a half ago. The 164 was Volvo's attempt to compete in the luxury market against Mercedes and Jaguar. The neat thing about the 164 is that it is based on the 140 line, meaning it shares a lot of parts with the more common 140 (and parts of the later 240, such as the windshield) and even the B30 engine is just a 6-cylinder version of the famous B20. Check out the KPH stickers on the speedo!Working A/C, as I understand it was installed some time in the 1980s and still functions pretty well today.

I have done some minor work (fluid change, new transmission pan gasket, new coil, new battery) but otherwise have just driven it. Engine and transmission are quite strong; this car can keep up around town easily!
The cloth portion of the upholstery is faded near the tops of the seats but the vinyl is in great shape and in general the upholstery looks good. I believe the seats were converted to cloth in Arizona due to hot summers; as I understand it, the headrest was left off the passenger seat because the owner's wife was a short lady who wore hats a lot (I have the headrest, it can be reinstalled if desired)
The parcel shelf was damaged by sun, so I cut and finished a piece of wood to replace it. Note how the very bottom of the headliner on the C-pillar is also sun damaged (the rest of the headliner is in excellent shape)
The windshield leaks at the lower corner on the driver's side; there's a raised panel on the driver's floor so the water runs straight back to the left rear footwell, which is why there's no carpet there. As you can see, this has caused some mild surface rust spots but nothing more. I decided to just keep it garaged rather than have the windshield reseated.
Rust: I haven't found any rust on the body except on the spare tire wells of the trunk. One side has a small hole, the other side appears to have had a hole repaired at some point.
Paint: The paint's in pretty good shape aside from a few chips and a spot of not quite perfectly matched patch paint on the driver's door
Cosmetics: Good shape except the aforementioned carpet removed from the left rear wheelwell, cracks in the dash as shown in pictures, and the broken-off side mirror.
Comes with two sets of keys, Haynes manuals for the Volvo 164 and 140 line, original owner's manual & maintenance schedule. Clean New Mexico title in seller's name.
