1983 VOLVO 245 (240) TURBO WAGON, MANUAL TRANS, BLK LEATHER, SUSPENSION UPGRADES
1983 Volvo 240
Beautiful classic Volvo 245 Turbo Wagon. Black leather interior. Manual Transmission. Really fun to drive.
I bought this car last summer in Portland, OR, and drove back across the country with my son. I wouldn't hesitate driving it back to Oregon today. It's a blast to drive, inexpensive to maintain, and looks beautiful. I had to travel 3000 miles to find one like this, so I'm sure you'll be hard-pressed to find anything that compares to it.
From the previous owner: "This is one of the finest 240 turbo wagons you'll see these days. It's a couple trim pieces and a driver's seat away from show ready. It's a few PSI of boost and a set of tires away from track ready. Choose your own adventure!" This was and is my dream car. I hate selling it, but the growing family makes it a necessity. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Car comes with two boxes of miscellaneous spare parts - mostly interior pieces
Qualifies as a collector, and insurance is very cheap (currently insured for $9000 for ~ $200/yr). Next year it will officially be an antique.
Easy or inexpensive to maintain - I don't do any work myself, but I've had it maintained locally at a Volvo specialist shop since I've owned it.
The previous owner made several improvements to the car listed here:
Flat hood ('75-'80 style)
OEM black door and tailgate handles (from '92 model year)
Black leather interior
Volvo rubber floor and cargo mats
Engine replaced with a rebuilt 1984 B21FT engine in 1999.
Odometer cluster replaced with 120MPH version and updated mileage since engine rebuild (~136K on engine/~215K on body)
repainted in 1999 VW "Silver Arrow" color (all badges were removed then, but I have them to pass on).
Upgraded engine wiring harness, including at the firewall (1999)
Silicone vacuum hoses
M46 4-speed manual transmission w/ electronic overdrive (OD switch moved to the dash)
Clean turbo rims
OEM Euro-style front turn signals, and round headlights.
Centerforce clutch (1999)
'93 rear differentials (2015)
IPD sway-bars, Eibach lowering springs, Bilstein shocks, IPD poly bushings
new distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires (2016)
What's not perfect:
It leaks a small amount of oil, but the belly pan keeps the driveway clean. It's not my daily driver, and still doesn't leak anything noticeable between changes.
Driver's seat could use some attention - couple tears and aging foam. Still comfortable, but not show-quality. I've been told there is a bolt that needs tightening to straighten the back also.
A few small scratches here and there. No dents. Paint job still looks amazing. All Volvo emblems were removed when it was repainted. They are in with the spare parts, but I like the look without them.
Front bumper trim looking a little aged
It needs new tires. Just passed inspection, but this would be the first thing I address as a new owner. Price adjusted to reflect this.
Driver's seatbelt has some fraying - no safety issue. Previous owner said easy fix with a spanner, but I haven't looked into it.
AC "works". It's been converted to R-134a and does cool once the car has been moving, but it's a 34 year old Swedish car - I'm sure you're not buying it for the AC.
No stereo or front speakers currently installed. I was going to put in a pretty good Alpine system and some basic speakers, but wanted to wait until I could do a full insulation upgrade too. The rear speakers are there, but no idea about whether they're functioning.
Rear power windows are finicky. Common issue apparently, likely caused by oxidation in the rear switches. Front controls will roll them down, but only the back controls roll them up.
Car looks and runs great as is, and will officially be an antique next year. Potential is there to be a true collector. I'm happy to answer any questions.
Thanks, Nick
