Description:

1969 Volkswagen Transporter Bus

Restoration project. You decide extent…Estate item (one “family” owner bus) 1969 VW Bus, originally bought in San Francisco and had it’s entire life in Marin County (across bay) California. Leased new then bought. Seven seat. Has been stored unused for last 30+ years. Had engine rebuilt by local specialized VW shop in 1980’s at about 100,000. Odometer reads 57020. Ran fine when stopped using. Can turn engine by hand at belt. Should have fuel changed before starting. (Maybe inspect- clean carburetor) Good to change oil. Of course probably needs new battery, or attempt to charge. 2 tires were flat, have replaced recently (not matching) just to help transport. Brake cylinders need replacing, foot pedal goes to floor. Recall front brakes needed new wheel cylinders. Bought some new cylinders, still in glove compartment… The two left wheels were not turning when attempted moved a bit last week, due to sitting for 30 years. At worst, replace drums/brake shoes. Includes all seats, center floor hardware. Front in need of reupholstery from age. Defects in headliner. Ready for restoration.

Vehicle Details

Rust:

Note: From storage water got in (probably rear hatch) rust on floor behind front seat. Parked on downslope. As shown in photos. Rust is also under right turn signal. Dents rear left lower area, upper right corner, as shown.

Missing very rear mat and a couple outside chrome trim pieces.

Usual cracks in plastic from age, sun, etc. Dash acceptable. …about 54 years old.

Floor rust in center area rear seems to be common on these older buses. Guessing it only needs 6 inch to 1 foot patch along front. Has original rubber mats, front and center area. They sell repair panels online.

Surface rust on top, probably due to tarp on it for many years. Blue paint all original, a bit oxidized.

This an untouched stock bus, not wrecked, not modified, not pieced together, not tapered with…as noted, other than some window tint…

For restoration.

A few parts in glove compartment as shown, including original gear shift knob and spare tire mount hardware. Crack on spare tire cover.

157,000 miles. Engine ran when parked, no warranty. Hey, but the radiator is empty!

Ready for restoration or very good parts VW.
