Description:

1975 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia Campmobile

1975 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia Campmobile.

This Westfalia has been our family camper and kid, grandkid, and miscellaneoustransporter for 33 years and 74K miles. We purchased it from the second owner in Bellingham WA at 128K miles, and it has remained here since. The second owner purchased it from a VW dealership in Tacoma WA.There is practically no rust.Currently at 202K and looking forward to the next 100K of adventure. It is very functional for use as is, and also is a great candidate for a refresh if you are looking for a functional show vehicle.

Full rear bench seat fits 3 (or 4 if small).Single cabinet leaves maximum floor space.Plaid upholstery was replaced in 1985 and is aged but functional except for the front seats which have covers on them.

Most mechanical components that wear out have been replaced (at least once) over the years, except the transaxle. The stock 1800cc fuel injected engine was rebuilt at 128K.The cam was replaced and heads re-rebuilt at 148K.Maintenance and modifications have been toward functionality over originality. It still looks great and functions better than the factory set up.

Modifications:

oOil temperature gage

oPush button start.

oAnti-theft “kill switch”.

o32 amp 12v breaker under rear seat for charging house battery/ inverter (not included). Also ignition detect wire to engage charge controller.

oGFCI added to original 120vac breaker box.

oLarger (Group 78) side terminal battery.

o120vac source select switch for original SHORE or INSIDE (inverter) receptacle.

oRadio power option switch for CONTINUOUS or the standard IGNITION on/off.

oRear ceiling stuff compartment holds sleeping bags and pillows.

oRear cabinet has sliding front covers for easy access.

oKitchen/sink cabinet is modified and now has 2 large removable plastic drawers, a pull-out screen shelf for a laptop, pads & phones, and a drop-down food prep surface with accessible storage behind it.

oDish rack above sink.

oThe 12v heater boost fan was removed to increase motor cooling, so the gas engine fan pushes all the hot air (same system as the VW bug).Electric fan is included but not installed (pic).

Body is in very good condition,Front floor has been sealed in two places using fiber glass with epoxy binder (pic). Right rear (near battery) has been repaired but is rough.Body creases in front of right rear wheel and front behind spare tire (pics).Front bumper was replaced but the orange body metal behind it is slightly deformed in one spot (pic). It was repainted sometime in its past. The touchup paint I have used for the last decade is not as perfect a match as what I had previously.
