1980 VW Vanagon Westfalia RARE Automatic
1980 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia
This is my son's 1980 Vanagon Westfalia - it is a factory automatic with a recently rebuilt motor and fuel system. The brakes have been gone through and so has the transmission. Most of all electrical works as well.
The Westy interior is actually quite nice - the fridge is intact and the stove is in good shape as well. The seats have some rips in them but someone in the past recovered the rear bedding areas and it looks like they are in good shape under the material.
The pop up is in real good shape and the upper bed looks like it was never used - the pop up canvas was removed and is the only thing needed to have the full sleeper up there. The bottom bed folds down to make a roomy bed as well.
The body has some really cool surface rust looking patina as well as some around the windows and rear hatch area. Obviously this is not a creampuff - but it is a bad ass surf wagon camper.
The automatic has brand new seals and a brand new OEM torque convertor. The tranny still leaks oil but appears that maybe another seal needs to be replaced?
It was a daily driver till we parked it in November - since then the fuel filter must be clogged because it will fire right up with a spray into the throttle body but the fuel line from the filter to the pump must have a small clog. The fuel pump is brand new and engages once the key is turned.
