Description:
1964 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Deluxe
1964 Deluxe Split Window Walk-through VW Bus/Van. I purchased her back in 2017 and have had her completely re-done mechanically, new engine, brakes, gear box, etc, complete new interior, wrapped in Dynamat, new rear bumper, low profile roof rack from across the pond & have a thick book of all the receipts and complete records of all that’s been done to her since I’ve owned her. Quite honestly I stopped keeping track of what I have in her because if my husband asked me I didn’t want to have to tell him! She has the amazing walk- through seats which makes her more special in my eyes vs having that bulkhead- you don’t see them as often. I re-did the frames, repainted, all new cushions and vinyl covers. I about had to give my first born for the front seats. I also added new lay down rock ‘n roll rear bed. Curtains, tie backs, bamboo front seat panels, palm frond woven ceiling with wood trim all custom made by me so my Lucy is one of a kind! I’d been offered fully custom cars from Dreamworks Motorsports (nationally known) and had turned them down because I wasn’t ready to part with her, quite honestly I’m not sure if I am ready even now. She’s had so much done, more then I could ever list here, I have a binder abotu 2” thick. If you’re dreaming of owning an amazing piece of history and want a super fun bus that’ll turn heads wherever you go she’s the one! She hasn’t had a off-frame of restoration, when I purchased her I wanted a bus that I could have fun in, drive and enjoy. I challenge you find a nicer and more mechanically sound driver out there. I always say she’s perfectly imperfect like me which is what makes her so special! She’s much loved, a lot of blood sweat and tears has gone into bringing her to the place she sits today. She doesn’t sit in the garage, I drive her, I share her as much as I can as these old vintage busses and bugs should be. I often do photos shoots with her with professional photographers, drive for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and just about any occasion. As much as I love and enjoy her, she’s been a money maker too! When I got her up and running good I knew she was much too pretty to sit in the garage. With that said, she brings so much joy, smiles and fun stories to all who see her & I’ve enjoyed each and every one shared with me! I don’t recommend going to fill her up with gas during the day if you’re in a hurry, it’s about a half hour plus affair. You’ll be stopped I almost guarantee every single time you go to the pump. Sharing her has given me the opportunity to keep her running well and give her what she’s needed done (without my husband telling me I had to sell her!). As much as I hate to part with her, I know she’s not meant to be kept garaged, she needs to be out and about and enjoyed. Our family is moving out of the country and starting a new adventure. Let me also say… I don’t NEED to sell her but feel like with this new chapter it’s the right thing. I can tell you, I’ll always own a vw for the very reason I’m about to tell you…The very best part of having my Lucy has been the amazing, kind, generous, honest, genuine and FUN people she’s brought to me. I’ll always own a vw just to be a part of this special group of people, to be able to be a part of doing good in our community with them, to continue to live life big, have fun & make memories together. A few things to share…as I said, she’s not perfect (which as I said above I love that she’s not because what fun is trailering a bus to put on carpet and being afraid to drive one? Theirs no fun and memories made in doing that. Her body has some nicks (beauty marks as I call them), as I drive her they are small and part of her story. She has a small amount of rust on the rockers not visible by walking around her and could maybe use some front pans if you’d like but I’d honestly never thought it was necessary. I’m trying to be as transparent as I can, please know these busses are always a project, often needing something done which is part of their fun and the adventure. She has newer drum brakes as I hadn’t converted them to disc as I never wanted to. She’s running in 1964 technology, she doesn’t drive like a new car for someone looking for that- if you are you don’t want a bus! She has beautiful new LED headlights to safely be able to see and drive her safer at night. She leaks a small amount of transmission fluid, eventually you’ll probably want to re-do her transmission but it’s not necessary right now she runs, shifts and drives great! I’d been considering a new transmission just for the reason of being able to better keep up with my friends that own bugs, they run some big boy engines. She doesn’t roll fast, which is part of her charm- as I see it if you go fast you often miss the good stuff! She’s been completely gone through mechanically by a local VW mechanic that’s been working on VW’s for over 40 years, I’d not take her to anyone else, he and his son are the very best out there. Her 1600cc dual port engine was custom built from the block (a plaque attached might give you an idea how much her new engine cost me). She always starts right up on the first crank and has a newer electronic ignition. She’s still running the 40hp, as I liked keeping her as original as I can. I had him build it the way he’d build it if she was his and to make her as easy for him to work on as possible as they do less busses there then they do bugs. I’m not a mechanic (hence the reason I have a great one) I do the creative stuff. My mechanic lovingly works on and take care of her because they love me! She’s a early 1964, she came off the line and was delivered to Miami I believe October of 1963. I was told by the previous owner that she’d spent most of her life out west (I bought her from owner in New Mexico) which would make sense due to her original body condition. The rear engine numbers and the numbers behind the passenger front seat match so to my knowledge she’s got all original metal. I’ve shown her every year at VW shows and she always brings home awards. If you have any additional questions I’ll do my best to answer them. She comes in as is condition, no warranty. I didn’t mention she does have a clean title in hand, actual mileage is unknown. Please note…Her front and rear license plates stay with me, they’re not included in this auction. All interior movable accessories aren’t included in this auction either but can be purchased separately as a once price package deal (rugs, ottoman, picnic basket, vintage luggage, etc.)
Buyer is responsible for paying transport fees or for picking her up in Raleigh/Wake Forest NC. I’ll help how I can to the best of my ability as far as coordinating.
