The LIN OIL treatments DOES look TERRIBLE in the pictures!

We know, but as showing anHONESTand TRANSPARANT condition of the issues for the new owner is more

important for us WE HAVE LEFT ALL THE LIN OIL protectant covering the SMALLEST SPOT of surface rust

and wherethe oil SPILLED out over other areas FORthe sake of keeping all metal in the bestpossible shape.

Something we APPRECIATE in viewing and considering something that makes it possible to seewhat

i am dealing with as a buyer, instead of two coats of shiny shit paint..possibly hiding bondo and rust.

We REALLY value the fact that the next owner will be able to polish off this LIN OIL protectant whenever he or

she is ready to treat the preserved original metal underneath then sealing it before building up the new paint job.

Mechanical

Since the T3 has been stored for more than 15 years it is NOT running OR driving at the moment, but will soon be !

Install the transmission

With some basic VW ”know how” the first and foremost work is to reinstall the transmission. (Original number matching and working without issues.) and the adjoining parts removed or unbolted. The transmission was wrongfully removed by a shop due to a bad diagnosis where the shifter linkage was to blame later . (Please read story below! ) All parts, nuts and bolts included plus some spare other parts accumulated. The actual mechanical assembly needed is not complicated but before that the new owner should take advantage of the opportunity to reach those parts that should be checked out while having the chance and access to easily reach parts and service belts, change fluids, hoses and gaskets to be replaced as well as a good cleaning. The engine, clutch and everything is untouched and has never been removed. Some parts needed to be removed are loose or on the side but everything is intact and functioning. Any sensitive areas have been covered of course. The vehicle was kept inside on hard cement and neither exposed to the elements or stored in any moist environment.

We will supply additional details and information as well as pictures of this if requested!

The story or most of it:

This Caravelle was a dependable daily driver ( later weekly )that always started and was parked in a garage at home.

There were no major issues except it being the victim of some bad luck in the underground garage that housed parking for both private residents as well as some commercial delivery vehicles. This is where the longish ”dent” seen on the large door happened as well as other small bumps. These were all checked out body shop and are ALL superficial in outer sheet metal and can be pulled out then manipulated with some patience and experience. Some other ”not so visable” places do need additional body work though.

Having had no issues or problems the owner at the time ( Second ) noticed that he sometimes had a hard time getting the vehicle into fifth gear (5). First he thought it might be his driving, thenthe clutch, before concluding that it must be the gear box. The local shop booked an afternoon to look at the T3and the owner drove the dependable

The shop took the T3 in for an inspection and in less than an hour proceeded to remove the gear box without first talking to the owner or even testing the complaint issue on the road. This was the last trip our T3 took on her own since 2004-05.

Then after finding this unbelievable the trans and vehicle was tested by another mechanic from VW sometime later and it was to 100% concluded that the removed original transmission WAS NOT the reason and declared without issues.

The problem was instead both simple, stupid and embarrassing for the first shop and mechanic.

It was the long stick shifters LINKAGE that had loosened or had come undone. Which when shifting to fifth made noises and with time got harder and harder to find the right gear position.

The owner ( second ) of the T3 hit the roof and demanded that the original shop now reinstall the transmission, tear up his bill and also pay the second mechanic from the second garage for their part in this. Well, this did not happen and never would. It got stuck in a civil matter never going to court or achieving anything besides the fact that a fully functioning T3 rolled in to a shop then stayed there.

The T3 Silver Coach spent a couple of years in limbo inside the second shops garage before being transported back to the still furious owner that now had decided to depart from the T3 as a friend of his had showed interest before buying it and becoming the third and current owner (seller in this eBay auction.)

And to sum it all up.

Because of personal health issues we decided that the best way to sell this T3 is to do it exactly as this ad displays.

As we do not have a realistic chance to engage ourselves in all the work required when the transmission is out (besides the mounting etc which is a pretty easy job) Of course mounting the trans and letting it go would have been to take that short cut that many do but we DONT or wont do.

We could have outsourced the work but having workedmany years with classic sports cars we VALUE the fact of appreciation and work ethics a FAN of these VW feels when doing the required work RIGHT from the foundation and up.

-Something we sincererly hope the highest bidder and WINNER of this International auction appreciates!

VW Wiki T3 History

1979-

The Volkswagen Type 2 (T3) was the third generation of the Volkswagen Transporter and was marketed under various nameplates worldwide – including the Transporter or Caravelle in Europe, T25 in the UK,[citation needed] Microbus in South Africa, and Vanagon in North and South America.

It was larger, heavier, and more angular in its styling than its predecessor, the T2 but shared the same rear-engine, cab-over design. It was produced in a rear wheel drive version as well as a 4WD version marketed as "Syncro."

The T3 was manufactured in Hannover, Germany from 1979 until 1991. Production of the Syncro (mostly for official use, like postal service or German army) continued until 1992 at Puch in Graz, Austria, where all 4WDs were built. A limited number of 2WD models were also produced at the Graz factory after German production had come to an end. South African production of the T3 continued, for that market only, until 2002.

The T3 was the final generation of rear-engined Volkswagens.
