1984 Volkswagen Golf

The VW Golf Was Named After A Horse? If you're like most car geeks, you know that Volkswagen has a thing for winds when it comes to naming cars. Sirocco is a Mediterranean wind, Passat is a trade wind, Jetta refers to the Jet stream, and Golf is what the Germans call the Gulf Stream.

This consignment starting out as a GTI and then went under some meticulous steps to become this low rider racer you see in front of you. Geared to appeal to the Mini Cooper, Ford Fiesta, and Nissan Versa crowd, this quasi tuner car slides neatly through turns, and has a good kick for its size. Our consigner added excitement to the compact sedan sector.

Exterior
A 'lil red racer if you will all nicely restored and straight steel mini panels all sprayed in racin' red. Black accenting on the bumpers, belt line trim spear, grille, and rear wheel fender protector. Black window surrounds, and a lower rocker trim spear complete the package. 15-inch shiny BBS RM snowflake styled wheels are all around.

Interior
The steering wheel from a 16v car fronts an absolutely pristine original square design Euro dash. All the tiny warning lights are working flawlessly, and the only derivation from the original is a radio delete plate and a trio of extra gauges, which now hang from the center of the dash. Recaro sculpted seats now replace the originals, and are covered in faux stitched, vented black vinyl. A very clean rear bench sits in back and stretches the width of the car. Black carpeting below and a new white headliner is above.

Drivetrain
A 2.0 Liter 4 banger with a 1.8 Liter Head which sports 276 cams, has Digifant fuel injection, and a 5-speed manual with a short throw shifter. On the side it has a Raceland header, on top a short runner intake manifold, and a serpentine belt conversion is noted.

Undercarriage
Very nicely restored with a solid unibody, shiny floorpans, and no rust in sight. The rear suspension is dual trailing arms connected by a twist-beam rear suspension and coil springs over telescopic shock absorbers. The front is McPherson struts. Power 4-wheel disc brakes are now on, and a Techtronics Stainless steel exhaust replaces the factory exhaust.

Drive-Ability
Wonderfully comfortable, and some gnarly acceleration and rail like handling put this car into the thrill ride category. It started right up and ran fab!

This is a neato sub compact car transformed into street racer cool, with a great restoration. Excellent interior, snappy power, and an excellent tune to the exhaust and we are off to the drift track.
