Description:

1974 Volkswagen Thing --

35,000 mile Texas car that was stripped down to a bare shell and completely restored. Has photo documentation. I love this "Thing"! Really, everyone that knows me, knows how much I like these. They are so much fun! People smile, give thumbs up everywhere you go. Easy to maintain, seats 5 people plus cargo. Goes off road, park right on the beach. Top down, doors off is my preference, fold the windshield down for maximum exhilaration. Absolutely perfect summer, beach,... resort car. Oh yeah, if you have kids, they will love you for buying this Thing. EXTERIOR: The rust free body was sandblasted to bare metal and given a beautiful, high gloss black paint. Any chrome trim was replaced. New convertible top and the side curtains have all new upholstery/ windows. It's dressed up with red stripes, working spotlights, ribbed bumpers and "Wild Thing" plate. Has custom Empi wheels. The doors easily lift off, windshield folds down. The side curtains have metal frames and are easily installed. INTERIOR: Has new upholstery on the seats. Has sport seats in front and the rear seats fold flat in case you need more cargo room. This one has custom locking compartment doors on the inside of each door. A custom roll bar was installed, looks cool and does not interfere with the top or people. Has accessory "beach boards" on the floor. Seatbelts were installed, upgraded 3 point retractable in front. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Only 500 miles on rebuilt motor, upgraded to a 1,676 cc. Has electric choke. The motor is cleaned up to look new and dressed up with extra chrome. The compartment was sandblasted and painted gloss black. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Clean metal was sandblasted and painted gloss black. Has a spare with custom tire cover. UNDERSIDE: Rust free, cleaned and painted. Brakes, hoses and lines are new. E-brake works. Front end steering and suspension look new. In back it has upgraded coil over shocks, new axles. Bottom of motor and trans look new. I just celebrated my 30th anniversary. My wife and I went to a resort town for a couple days and I could take any car I wanted, even a Duesenberg. What do you think I picked? That's right, this thing. It was a blast. These are also starting to shoot up in value. Several have sold at auction for over $50,000, the last one was nowhere near as nice as this one. Buy this one and enjoy your investment! I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail.
