1981 VW Pickup Truck
1981 Volkswagen Rabbit LX
Well brothers, it had to happen eventually.
My VW truck engine finally died two weeks ago.
The engine seized after I had failed to secure the vacuum boost pump in place. Confound me- I drove 4 miles with the "low oil pressure" light on.
But the good news? Its inspection is valid until the end of May 2020.
A lot of good it'll do on a truck with an engine that doesn't run!
I'm in mourning- had this truck since 1991.
It's a parts or "project" truck at this point. Yes, the engine will turn over (sometimes) but there's something broken inside it. Maybe a bent connecting rod? No idea. I don't mean to be vague- those are just my ideas.
The injection pump works perfectly....as mostly everything else (except the Diesel engine). Heater fan has only 1 speed- high. Wipers don't work on intermittent
Alternator was new last year as were the spindles, water pump, rear brakes and axles and front calipers (they are 2 months old). Tires are fine- alloy rims (wow).
Keep in mind this truck is 38 years old so don't expect a pristine, no rust or damage vehicle.
Extensive rust- floor pans, left rear panel near exhaust pipe. Lower front wheel wells and other areas. Struts towers are ok.
Man, I'm sad about this.
You'll need a tow truck or flatbed to haul it away.
If it doesn't sell I'll just "part-it-out" and scrap the rest of it. I'm keeping the Ron Paul stickers.
