1970 Volkswagen 2 Door Sedan
1970 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic
1970 Volkswagen Beetle Sedan
Its time for me to sell my 1970 VW Bug. It is a driver quality. Its not perfect or a show quality car although I have had many compliments on its excellent condition. It needs to be driven and I just dont find the time to drive it as much as I would like to. It is always garaged, pampered, and covered with a car cover when not in use. This is a non-smokers car.
History:
I bought this 1970 VW from a private party in Sacramento California in October 2011 as a restoration project and spent 3-4 years working on rebuilding the car. The result is what you see in the pictures provided. Other than the paint job and the engine rebuild, I did all of the rest of the work. I have pictures of some of the restoration process. Unfortunately, there is no history on the car prior to October 2011 other than the PO (prior owner) states he replaced the worn out original 1500cc single port engine with a 1600cc dual port. This was done by Blake Restoration & Porsche Repair in Sacramento. The PO also states the brakes were replaced. The PO said he is the 3rd owner but he lost all the previous receipts and records. Original mileage is unknown since the speedometer/odometer had not been working for some time. The mileage mentioned in the "item specifics" is the mileage since the engine rebuild. As of 2011, I estimate there were over 100,000 miles on the car.
Since October 2011, I have kept a record of everything that was done to the car and I have every receipt for parts. I put all these in a 3 ring binder in date order for the next owner which could be you if you win my auction! I have tried to replace parts with German parts (when possible), NOS German parts, and/or used reconditioned parts.
Birth Record:
According to the build certificate (birth record) I ordered from Stiftung Auto Museum in Germany, the production date of this VW was April 22, 1970. It was shipped to San Francisco California on June 18, 1970. The original color was L620 Savannah Beige and the upholstery was leatherette Nut Brown. Due to the condition of the PO paint job and the old torn upholstery or what was left of it, I chose to paint the car a two stage R94 Honda Red and installed beige leatherette upholstery and oatmeal carpeting.
Body and chassis numbers matching. 1102839735 (See pics) The original 1500cc engine was discarded by the previous owner and replaced a number of years ago.
The following is a partial list of everything that was done to the car between 2011 to the present:

Starts with the first turn of the key
Many more parts too numerous to list have been replaced. I have all receipts and records.
Registration:
The car is registered in California until May of 2020.
I have a clear title in hand
Since this car is a pre-1975 vehicle, there is no smog test requirement in California.
In Conclusion:
This is a nice driving and running car and gets many waves and smiles from other motorists. It starts right up the first time the key is turned. Everything works as it should.
Please note that this is a driver quality car. It is not perfect nor concourse quality. There are a few slight paint chips from driving it and working on it and the usual wear and tear from driving it.
Due to the fact that the car is almost 50 years old, no warranty is offered or implied on this car. The car is sold AS-IS. There are no refunds.
The car comes with:
Car cover
Stainless steel and wood slat (sealed) roof rack
4 original wheels and tires if you want them (fair condition)
