1970 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon
1970 Volkswagen Type 2 is a double-cab pickupfinished in white over black. Ipurchased the truck in 1998 after several years of contact with the previous owner. In service for many yearsas a parts chaser for my shop.Many appearances at Monterey Historics as my support vehiclebefore its retirement in approximately 2012. Speedometer and Odometer are not accurate, Actual Mileage has exceeded mechanical limits.
Each of the three bed gates can be lowered individually. Note the rubber stops equipped on the third door, tailgate, and drop sides.
The original flat-four was replaced with a Brazilian-built1,679cc Type 1 crate motor witha 69 mm crank, 88mm pistons,a single downdraft carburetor, and an alternator conversion by the seller's shop.
The gearbox was rebuilt by Transaxle Engineering with a higher fourth gear ratio for lower engine speeds on the freeway. Ball joints, front disc brakes, and larger rear drums were sourced from a 1974 model year van along with a dual-circuit brake booster.
