1984 Rabbit GTI - THE Original Hatchback!
I am the 3rd lucky owner of this car. It has always been garaged and loved through its 133,700 original miles. I love this car and hate to sell it but due to a recent 5 level lower back fusion it has become impossible to drive it very far so it is not getting used. It is time for me to pass it on to its new owner to enjoy as the previous 3 owners have.
The car runs and drives like a dream. I dare anyone to drive this little beauty and not get out of it with a huge smile. This is built on the original MK1 platform. It is the smallest of any of the GTI platforms and therefore it drives like a little go-cart. The 1985 Golf GTI which won car of the year from a couple magazines at the time was built on the next generation platform. I had several 85 GTI's which I loved but finally found an 84 which is by far my favorite. It was difficult to find one in decent condition.
I bought the car 6 years ago from a mechanic who works at Boeing. Due to his mechanical love (he put an Audi throttle body on it. It runs like a top when it warms up) and the fact I did a new paint job in the original VW black (the original paint was extremely chipped on the hood and there were many door dings) it is in amzing condition. It still has the original manual and jack. There is even the build sheet under the rear seat. New gasket on working sunroof. No A/C.
It has upgraded front brakes, bilstein coilovers, MK1 header and down pipe and a stainless exhaust from Sweden. You can have choice of wheels/tires. Both are original 14" snowflakes. One is powder coated black with red pinstripe with tires with less than 2K on them. The other is a set I had refinished with brand new tires.
I do have other interested buyers, the car may sell before the end of the auction. If this happens I will pull the auction.
