Description:

1962 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Deluxe

This is a real German 1962 15 window bus. I have owned it for about 5 years and just cannot find the time to finish it. I have another Kombi and have decided to devote my time and energy into it. This auction is for a Deluxe 7 passenger bus, Turkis and Blue-White, and most of the hard to find parts are included. It has the original hump back seat, and the original back seat, both have been re-covered many years ago. The belt-line trim is included. Both deluxe bumpers are included and are in nice shape, with a couple of minor dents. The splash pans are intact. The original jailbars are all there with all the bits and screws. All of the dash is intact with the gauges and switches I got with the bus. The wiring is out of the dash and will need to be gone over. The parcel shelf is solid and it has a nice radio delete plate. I sourced a proper deluxe clock that looks real nice. It has had a good amount of metal work completed but it is not finished yet. The front nose skin was tacked in place by the previous owner and a lot of time was spent getting it fitted and welded properly to the windows and dash. The bus was rusty from the floors down and along the bottom of the partition inside. I have replaced the front floor and the entire cargo floor along with both side rockers and all the pieces below the floor, including outriggers, crossbeams, and inner rockers. The entire bottom of the partition panel was replaced as were the B and C pillars lower sections. The previous owner did a so-so job on the lower rear corners and installed the wrong style doglegs and that is the point I have reached prior to this sale. The doglegs are fine but they are cheaper parts and have the wrong lip profile. I have purchased the proper Gerson made doglegs and will include them. I bought 2 new rear corners from Wolfsburg West and they are the entire left and right corners from the belt-line down. There are a few other areas that still need attention: The bottom inside of the cargo doors were rusty and have been cut out and prepped for the replacement pieces to be welded in. The metal parts are included. The rest of the cargo doors are in good shape. The rear parcel area has an approximate 1 square foot area with pinholes from rust and I have sourced a donor parcel shelf for patching. Of course the corners need to be fitted and welded in. The bottoms of the front doors have some holes on the bottom that need patching (inside bottom edge). The door skins are solid. The roof is nice, it had a few areas of pin hole rust in the gutters that was minor and was filled in. The rest of the bus is solid and ready for primer and bodywork, but will surely need to be gone over with additional welding needed. A couple of things I'm aware of are the parking brake needs to be welded back in as well as the rest of the jack-points. The entire bus was wet sandblasted and has been acid etched to keep down surface rust so the pictures you see are bare metal, not primer. The bus was on a rotisserie for several years and has been put back to roller status for the sale. It has been upgraded to a 67 front beam and big nut trans-axle from a donor bus. The wheels are 14 inch bus rims with decent radial tires. All four corners have complete brake assemblies except for brake lines. All the door handles are what I got when I bought it and appear to be original. There are no interior panels or ceiling. Glass: All original German glass EXCEPT for the windshields. Corner glass is original. 6 popout window frames with glass are included and in fair shape. I was going to buy all new ones. The bus will need all rubber and seals. I have the M Code Plate and a good Title in my name. There are a lot of little parts in boxes so if you don't see it in the pictures let me know and I will look. I can't guarantee that every little piece is there because I have never had it assembled, so please ask.
I do have a 63 middle seat that is not quite proper and needs a complete re-cover. It is NOT included in the auction. I also have a 74 DP 1600 motor that was running fine in my 67 bus that is also NOT included in the auction. Please inquire about them if you win the bid. I did this to keep the reserve down and I realize some people don't want a middle seat or a motor. They are not for sale to anyone else. Winner will arrange pickup and shipping. I will prepare the bus as best I can for shipping. Bus is sold as is and there are no warranties.
