Description:

1974 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia

Please read the entire ad, this sale is for 2 cars and parts, I will not separate so be prepared to bring a large trailer or make multiple trips. Serious inquiries only, please don't waste my time, be serious and ready to buy all of this stuff. Cash at pickup or certified bank cashier's check only.
Car 1 is a 1974 Karmann Ghia that I bought from the family of the original owner. It has been totally dismantled and a full color change from the original Signal Orange to Porsche arctic silver metallic with Glasurit /BASF paint. The trim, large late front turn signals and front bumper "tube" holes were deleted along with removing the factory air cleaner stand from the engine bay. The car was very strait as seen in the pictures, but does have one small dent now on the driver's side rear quarter compliments of my 4 year old and a power wheels which is what has sparked this sale. I'm confident a paintless dent person could fix it, the car has been under a heavy indoor cover so the paint was not damaged, just a slight dent that I wanted to point out, its nose is 100% original and strait, the car did have some rust above the headlight buckets, spare tire well floor and a small hole in the driver's side floor at the gas pedal heel location. All the rusted locations were cut out and metal welded in with proper repair panels. The underside of the car and fenders were then sealed with several cans of 3M Body Shutz 08864 undercoat and the inside floor and interior lower were sprayed with a bed liner kit, beware that the bed-linerkit did not stick to everything and some parts have peeled a little, my guess is the areas that it peeled had primer over spray dust on them and the product stuck to the dust. Either way its sealed up and ready to assemble!
It is on Porsche 914s wheels that were glass blasted and powder coated in anthracite metallic including the spare. The tires are General Altimax radials that were mounted and road force balanced. This car is an assembly project at this point. Other than the headliner and new dash kit I do have the original seats that are in decent shape but would need new foam to be comfortable. The carpet is gone, I may have the door cards but to built this car correctly it needs some new interior parts purchased, however the sale includes the following new parts:
The engine and transmission were built by Dennis Miller at Valley VW, it is a mild 1915cc with dual carbs, ceramic coated exhaust, all tins were media blasted and powder coated back to the factory color, alternator, tapped for full flow with a spin on oil filter etc. The engine and transmission have never been installed, they have been covered on a stand in my garage. Stand with VW specific adapter included with sale. The engine, transmission and car have been stored in a climate controlled garage, the engine cylinders were fogged with Sta-Bil fogging oil and has been turned over by hand regularly, the transmission has not been filled since rebuilt a couple years ago, it was painted and has been in a bag under the engine.
New:1. Valley VW built 1914 engine with new clutch kit2. Valley VW built 4 speed transaxle3. Engine compartment insulation "tar boards"4. Wiring harness - complete kit5. Glove box kitETC ETCI have receipts and documentation for almost everything.
The sale will also include car 2 another totally original but rusty 1974 Karman Ghia coupe. It too came from the original owner's family but sadly It has been parked since 1984, the original engine still turns over and some of the electricals still work but is a parts car at this point due to the rust, though an ambitious person could theoretically restore it as well. My plan for it was to use it as a guide to re-assemble the silver car then turn it into a Ghia Baja "Google it, they are pretty neat!" The pictures of the green parts car are from when I bought it, it looks about the same but is on 4 stock wheels with tires that do hold air so it can be moved. I have a tow bar for VWs so moving it around is not an issue for me, the tow bar can go with the sale as well.
The sale also includes parts from another 1974 Karmann Ghia including a complete nose that I cut off, my plan was to make cleats and hang it on my shop wall as garage art! I have a couple totes full of parts from this car including gauges, lock set with keys, bumpers, lights etc etc.
I have clear titles in my name and keys for both cars. All documentation, manuals etc go with them. Again, I will not separate this stuff, 1974's are actually some of the rarest Ghias from a numbers standpoint, they are the last year they were built. This is a rare opportunity to assemble one and make it your own as you go, all the majorly dirty work is done. Again, serious inquiries and offers only, send me an email to get in touch with me! Cars are located in Harpers Ferry WV 25425 one hour from Washington DC / NOVA / Dulles. It is for sale locally and elsewhereonline so I reserve the right to pull this at any time. Check my feedback, email me if your serious about this collection! I am honestly only selling all of this because with 2 little ones later in life I just do not have the time to dedicate to finishing it right now, even if it were finished I wouldn'thave the time to enjoy it and I could use the garage space back!
