1991 Volkswagen Golf GTI VW Mk2 VR6 Motor Swap with Custom Interior and Audio
1991 Volkswagen Golf GTI
Up for auction is my Mk2 1991 VW Volkswagen GTI with a VR6 OBD2 motor swap that was installed professionally by DubWerx in Cincinnati, OH back in 2004 at 148k, now has 186k. I bought a donor car that had a 75k something mile motor with a built tranny that had the 1st, 2nd, and main gear out of a G60 Corrado along with the front brake set up as well. They swapped the rear from drum to disc as the GTI was originally an 8 valve. They also installed a new larger Passat radiator with custom brackets.
The car was used as a demo vehicle for a car audio shop and has a custom audio system with the main focal point being the floating subwoofer box that is actually a strut tower brace (it bolts in-between the strut towers with brackets). It also has a painted fiberglass front panel with a plexiglass window so you can see the interior of the box which is lit with red L.E.D.’s and flocked in red to look like suede.
The car was in the Cincinnati Cavalcade of Customs Car Show in 2007, 2008, 2009 with the first system set up, and in 2012 with the second set up.
I garaged this car from 03’ to 15’ (also garaged by the previous owner, but not sure for how long).

What I would do:
My next step was going to be body work and a new paint job with new “plastics”. The current plastics (flares, sides skirts, and the textured parts of bumper) were painted and you can see the paint flaked from improper paint prep. The fenders and flares were cut in a “G60” pattern for the Miro wheel fitment.
Attention:
Emergency brake is not working
Has UV fade on some of the suede
NO 8” speakers in the rear panels or tweeters in the custom build pods on upper door panel
Has some dings, dents, and scratches.
Some difference in paint on panels from partial paint job in a rush to get it to Cavalcade of Customs Cincinnati 2012 after the rear emblems and wiper were shaved (the car was partially painted in the rear/ sides, there is a little paint fade / pinkish color around the rear window).
There is a little rust on the drivers door and in the rear passenger wheel well (it was cut out of the rear well when the fenders were modified and then prepped with rust inhibitor).
Drivers mirror plastic is cracked but will come with another set of GL mirrors as well as the factory ones that are color matched but faded.
Driver’s door panel interior window trim is broken and missing
Back of driver seat falls backwards sometimes when no tension is on it, I was told the cable is loose
Screw holes in both L and R rear side panels where capacitors were mounted and holes wheres wires ran for old system
Three small holes in front of current amp rack from where old amp rack mounted
Window Tinting is old and needs replaced
No Air Conditioning but GOOD Heat
More pics upon request and I also have a walk around cold start video I can send as well
