1972 VW (Volkswagen) Bus Camper - Bay Window - Pop Top
I'm selling my VW bus. This bus is amazing, with the exception of 1 problem, has a rod knock in the engine and is going to need to be rebuilt. It's a Type 4 pancake style engine 1700cc. It has been running great the past 6 months, I've been on many long distance trips with the bus (400+ miles) and not had any problems. The other day, the oil dumped and caused the rod to knock. The motor is not seized, and still starts up, but not recommended for driving until rebuilt. My mechanic quoted me $4,500 to do the full rebuild for me, or the parts to buy and do it myself were $1,700. Please note, this is not currently driveable until rebuilt.
Now that that's out of the way, lets get to the good stuff! Here is a list of everything new or restored:
- New pop top canvas- New CD player and 2 front door speakers- New upholstery throughout- New black and white checker flooring- New cabinet (built by me) for the "kitchen" area which includes a manual pump sink, water tanks, flip up cook top, and shelving. This is not original, so if you don't want it, I'll keep it.- New pop top hinges- New tires with less than 1,000 miles on them- New Bosch starter- New top of the line battery and battery cables- New front rotors and brake pads- New rear CV boots- New canvas for cot up in pop top (upstairs)- New cheaply made blue flannel curtains (includes velcro curtains to cover front windshield and front doors for complete privacy- New heater line, new heater fan/blower for interior heater- New steering rod coupler- New shift rod coupler- New front and rear bearings- Fuel pump block off plate installed- New hard start relay kit- New windshield wipers
Parts I currently have that are included in the sale and are brand new in box, but not yet installed:- New clutch cable- New gas pedal cable- New front tie rod ends- New front shocks- New drag link- New swing lever shaft repair kit- New ball joints *Note: I have all these new parts because the front end steering is getting worn out (still works fine) and I had planned to replace them, just haven't had time yet.
Additional features included:- Toddler cot over front seats (no tears, works great)- Nice shelving and storage throughout- Recently painted black front dash area- Recently had a professional tune up - approx 4/15/18- Flip up dining table
Additional Notes:- All blinkers/lights work- Horn works- Generally speaking the paint is in good condition, however not perfect. A few tiny scratches here and there.- There are no "dents" to speak of- The door locks and handles are finicky and might need some adjusting, however they are functional- The slider door doesn't line up perfectly when shut, needs minor adjustments (rear rain guard is slightly bent at the corner as a result)- I do have a tow dolly (see picture) that I'm happy to sell for an additional $800 if you want it (only used a couple times ever - like new). Use it to tow the bus home if you pick up locally.
I'm happy to help with shipping in any way I can. I have explored various vehicle shipping quotes and they are anywhere from $400-700 depending on where you live. I'm trying to be as honest and upfront as possible about the conditions of the bus so there are no surprises. If you have further questions, or would like to see specific pictures, please reach out to me and I will assist. Thanks!
