Description:

1959 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic

Top to bottom restoration of an original 1959 bug to factory specifications. The car has its original numbers matching 1200cc (36 HP) engine and 6 volt charging system. The car's history is documented in a 3-ring binder with photos and receipts.

I am the fifth owner with a chain of ownership back to the original owner. The body, interior & chassis, and trim restoration was completed by the third owner (87 year old man) in 2011.This restoration addressed the following:

•Beautiful exterior & interior black paint job

•All glass is original and in pristine condition

•All new correct stainless trim

•All new correct interior (seats, headliner, door panels, and carpeting)

•All new body (mount to floor panel) and fender gaskets

•All new rubber moulding (door, window, hood, and motor compartment) -- cabin is airtight.

The fourth owner (72 year old man) purchased the car in 2012 and proceeded to spend more than USD$10,000 (receipts included) addressing the following:

•Motor overhaul in September 2013 @ 12,128 miles (current reading is 22,300 miles) USD$6,000

•New brakes all around (and recently adjusted)

•New front shocks (rear shocks were in good condition so not installed. The set of new rear shocks is included with the car)

•New starter motor

•New clutch and components in April 2015

I purchased the car in April 2015 (13,599 miles) and have addressed the original charging system, replacing the 6 volt generator, voltage regulator, and added a new 6 volt battery.I also had the fuel pump rebuilt with German components.

There is no shortage of these older bugs (pre-1967) available on the market, but this late 1950's restored example in this most desirable colour combination of black with brick red interior, and classic Coker whitewalls narrows your choices considerably.Generally, the older the car, the higher the price, assuming similar condition.Pre-'53 split windows and pre-'58 oval windows are highly sought after, not to mention the 1958-1961 (still no fuel gauge), followed by the 1962-1967.1968 and onwards are considered "essentially new" and are given less attention by the VW enthusiast, although are still cool too in my eyes.

There are no issues whatsoever, and the car runs and drives perfectly. The synchro for second gear is slightly worn but does not cause any drivability issues.Any questions are welcomed and additional photos are available upon request. This is not a Concours Show Winner, but it is an excellent quality, restored example with nice paint, newer interior, confident engine where everything works and functions as it should have in 1959.Although not concours, it has won several awards at regional vw and vintage car shows.

These cars are an investment. It is expected that these cars will only increase in value over time -- especially the restored examples from the 1950's and early 1960's.This has already been witnessed since 2006-ish with these cars.
