Description:

1965 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Sundial Camper

Offering my 1965 Sundial camper for sale. I'm the second owner. It has been stored in a shed since 1983. Would need to refresh mechanicals to return to service, but everything is there in serviceable condition. No rust through of any panel that I can find. Sound jack points (I just used them to put inflated tires on it). It's got sun scald on the roof that faced the south for the last 34 years. The roof gutter is still quite sound. Unbeknownst to me the original owner had dinged the front panel, pulled it out, applied bondo and repainted it. I put a coat of epoxy paint on it when the original paint was nearly worn thru to metal from winter travel. I didn't discover the damage until the paint started to fail 40 years later. Clearly visible in pics. Won't require replacement, just minor cosmetic repair. A little damage from shrubbery on the drivers side. Panel under double doors is dinged in from kicking snow off of boots before entering. Yeah, ski bum.
Original seats, 4 point drivers belt, 2 point passengers belts. Seats need recovered. Camper interior is ugly but usable. Needs deep cleaning. Propane tank, two burner stove, rubbermaid tubs as the original water system was removed as it was always frozen. Kitchen unit is built to accommodate a stand up coleman cooler. Cut out under rear seat is sized for Craftsman 6 drawer tool chest. Fire extinguisher mount on door. Kitchen unit is sized so that milk crates can be stacked inside door where the jack is leaning. Comes with original jack. Have replacement handle for rear door. I've left all the original panels that I could intact as the new owner will need to recover or replace them to be presentable. Also comes with four 14inch original rims and four 15inch original rims and original (now junk) tires.
Engine is a 1680 (87mm Kolbenschmidts) with Isky hydraulic lifters, dual carburetors dual port from a squareback. Ball bearing throttle linkage. Cooler, Filter, all machine work was done at Riddle machine. Small studs, inserted etc. Trans has ghia welded 3&4th, reduction gears good. 12v, driving lights, front spare tire mount, am/fm radio. Engine is not frozen, turns over. Had about 32,000 on last build. Stole the pulley for one of the kids bugs, but will replace it soon. Stewart Warner gauges, original shifter extension, key holder, key for engine and gas door. Several sets of door and ignition keys. Two speed wipers, windshied washer, engine oil and transmission temp shown in a single oil temp gauge by switching between senders. I decambered this bus as soon as I got it as I was working at 4J Motors in Huntington Park at the time. All the work was done at the dealership. (Check our Formula VEE and Super Vee stats!)
All I've done so far is hose it out and use the shop vac, no destructive cleaning yet. This bus is a good candidate for a "patina" job, as there is no serious rust or rust through. More work than I'm willing to do, as I found when I retired. Clear title. Last fee was $7. Times have changed.
