1965 VW Beetle

Very loved little Beetle needs a new home. Work was done around 1992 to make it a very nice usable car. Car has had occasional maintenance and short drives over the past several years. Runs fine. Selling because 5 little kids don't fit in a bug!

Main Modifications Made (around 1992):

Has a 1200 cc engine with a new crankcase, new pistons, and new cylinders.

It also has a new 12 volt generator and a new 12 volt starter, but this starter has a "6 volt" bendix drive that matches the original "6 volt" flywheel that was retained.

New fuel pump, and mechanical advance distributor, and new clutch.

The transmission and differential were professionally rebuilt.

All brake lines, the master cylinder, and the wheel brake cylinders were replaced.

The right side heater channel was professionally replaced, and a new floor on the right side.

An electric windshield washer pump was added rather than the original approach that used air pressure from the spare tire to force the washer fluid out.

Electric blower was added to assist with heat in the winter.

Third brake light was added in back window.

Shoulder strap driver seatbelt was added.

An oil filter kit from Gene Berg was added. The filter is located in the driver side rear wheel well. It uses a Fram HP1 filter. This filter has an extra strong case to prevent rocks thrown up by the tire from penetrating the filter. The original engine only had a screen in the crankcase.

The ignition timing is set with an extra advance to get a little more power.

Fm radio replaced the original am radio.

Misc parts were replaced for aesthetics. I.e. Roof liner, bumpers.

Comments:

To protect the engine from "knocking" it is best to use premium gas.

The steering wheel lock does not work.

The ring gear on the flywheel has one small "dead" spot - to start the car when the starter just spins, with the car in gear, rock the car slight back and forth.

Heat is stuck in on position.

Paint has occasional cracking and chips. Occasional rust. Seats could use new upholstery. All original glass, but front windshield has a crack.

Battery will not hold a charge very long, it needs to be replaced.

Original parts available if requested:

Original fiber cover that was under the front hood covering the dashboard wireing. It was split in half.

Original 1965 bug radio - it worked, but was am only. It has a very nice front panel that matches the dashboard.

Original Hella headlights and glass lenses, starters generators. Etc.

Original crankcase cylinders and Pistons.

Original bumpers (was hoping to re-chrome these one day)
