Description:
1987 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia Wolfsburg Edition
1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia "Tin Top" Wolfsburg edition.ENGINE & TRANSMISSION:
~ 115k miles (Speedometer was replaced in May of 2001 when the van had 94008 miles on it. New speedo shows 20890 miles).
~ The engine starts and runs well but, there is water leaking into the crankcase, most likely caused by lower cylinder seals or a head gasket. (we did change the oil and filter and ran the engine briefly to "clean" the water out of the parts of the engine it shouldn't be in.
~ Missing drivers side push-rod cover.
~ 4 Speed manual transmission shifts as it should.
INTERIOR:
~ Carpet and upholstry are in very good shape except for one small hole in the rear bench seat (see photo).
~ Drivers door panel is plastic and does not match the passenger side. Not sure why it is this way but, it is.
~ Has power windows but, passenger side switch is broken so it hangs out of door.
~ Fold out table needs a new latch to hold it down.
~ Glovebox needs a new latch.~ Radio works but the front speaker on the drivers side is missing and the passenger side speaker does not work.
~ A/C is not hooked up. Compressor is seized and the ceiling duct work is damaged and not installed. It can be installed but will need some sheet metal or fiberglass work where the pieces connect to each other and the ceiling (see photo). Once installed, there will be no visible damage. Blowers are included but will need installed.
~ Seat belt on the rear facing seat on the passenger side does not retract
EXTERIOR:
~ Overall the body and paint are in very nice shape, especially for an all original, 30 year old vehicle.
~ Small chip in the windshield on the passenger side.
~ Light rust above the rear wheel on the passenger side, and just in front of back tire. Has rust starting below the windshield on the drivers side (See Photo)
~ Antenna is Broken
~ Clear coat is peeling on top of the mirrors and the roof. (see photos)
~ Tires hold air but are mismatched tread and will need replaced before
~ Factory alloy wheels (14 inch) are in good shape.
This is a great, classic, and rare (Westfalia and Wolfsburg edition), Vanagon that won't take much work to have a great daily driver or weekend retreat van.
The value of these vans is very solid and rising. Check the internet, you'll be amazed at what these things can sell for! Of course, if you've ever driven one, you know the feeling cannot be had with any other car!
My 17 year-old son bought this on a whim as it is now. After a couple of months, he realized that with school, sports, college/career planing, and a girlfriend, he just didn't have much time to give to the van. His loss is your gain.
The van is located on the eastern shore of Maryland 10 minutes from Ocean City. Though it does run, you'll want to tow/haul it home due to the water contaminating the oil and the tires are not great. Buyer must arrange for pick up in Berlin, Maryland. We are happy to coordinate with you or your transport company. Vehicle is for sale locally so we reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells locally.
