Description:

1991 Volkswagen Jetta Ecodiesel

A RARE GERMAN-BUILT 1991 VOLKSWAGEN ECODIESEL!

Here it is, your chance to own one of the rarest VWs ever made. Fewer than 800 Ecodiesel Jettas were made in Germany and imported to the US. These weren't sold anywhere else outside of the US. Of the roughly 800 that were sold, there were only about 750 1991 models. Who knows how many are still on the road today. This turbo diesel gets over 40 mpg on the highway. These were the only "Big Bumper" Mk2 diesels Volkswagen made.

The Ecodiesel came with a different fuel pump from other VW turbo diesels and actually came with a catalytic converter. This one starts and runs great. It comes with a five-speed manual transmission. The wide fifth gear is great for highway cruising. This particular car came with two important options - cruise control and air conditioning.

This car was originally sold new in September of 1991 in Asheville, NC. It's a true southern car. It spent it's whole life in sunny North and South Carolina. You can tell just by looking at it. None of the rust/rot issues that northern rustbelt cars suffer from. It has a clean and clear title.

I have the original owner's manual. The car runs amazingly well. The engine was supposed to have been rebuilt at 272,000 miles. I don't have the documentation to prove it, but it certainly runs like it. This car is in excellent condition. The interior shows almost no wear due to the fact that almost all the miles on this car were highway miles. (Please see photos) The light gray cloth interior is intact, no stains, cigarette burns, or tears.

The Black paint (L041) looks great. There are a few minor scratches, chips, and dings as would be expected on a car of this age. The car has been professionally detailed. All door handles and exterior trim are present and work properly.

Known issues with the car: The vacuum for the power brakes doesn't work - could be just a seal in the vacuum pump but haven't investigated. The air conditioning is all present and has been converted to R134a, but it doesn't blow cold. Could just need a charge but haven't looked into it. The glowplug light stays on all the time. The glowplugs have been tested and work as designed, but the light stays on. This could be a bad relay or bad sensor, but haven't tested it. Speedometer works but odometer and trip meter do not work. Probably a worn gear in the instrument cluster. There is some bad clear coat sprayed onto the driver's door that could be wet-sanded or repainted. Front bumper cover has been replaced with a silver one by previous owner. There is also slight damage to the front of both front fenders.

Now is your chance to own one of the rarest VW Turbo Diesels out there. This would be the ultimate daily-driver for a VW enthusiast. It's an extremely clean example! If you could find a black Mk2 big bumper car to swap a few body parts with, it could look incredible. Clear title! Most VW enthusiasts are unaware how few of these cars were made. There were fewer than 800 made over 15 years ago. How many are left??? It might even APPRECIATE in Value once people realize!
