Description:

1982 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Campmobile Van Camper 3-Door

Up for sale is my 1982 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia. I was planning on getting it running again and take it camping but like so many times other projects are taking up more time than planned. Things like a 120yr old house and a '60 Single Cab :) I'm hoping she'll go to a caring new home. The Westfalia is originally from Arizona so it's amazingly rust free. There are a few spots of surface rust that need addressed like the spots by the driver's side rear window as shown in the Pictures. The floor and frame work is rock solid. Pretty much all of the factory decals are all still present and most in very nice shape. The body is straight minus a couple small spots and some small scratches from normal use. The paint is oxidized but can be brought back to a nice shine with a simple buffer. I buffed the front clip just to see how it comes out and it turned out really nice. It does need a new windshield as a brick went into it. More on that in a minute. The interior is the jewel on this Westfalia though. It's mint! I just vacuumed the seats but with a bit of cloth cleaner they'll look like new. The carpet does not have any wear spots of any sorts. All the cabinets are mint. The brown edging shrunk like they all do on some spots but this one is better than 99% of the ones I've seen. The "headliner" material is peeling like they all do. The pop top mechanism works perfect and locks in place like it should. The pop top seal should be replaced though. The brown window cranks and door handles suffer from the common brown VW syndrome and are cracked for the most part.
Now for some history. The Westfalia was originally owned by a couple in Arizona. In 1987 it had a small engine fire. This is where the insurance company wrote it off and it earned a salvage title because of this. It sat at there until a Mechanic from Nebraska bought it and brought it back home. It sat in a small shop in small town Nebraska from there on. He, like me, had plans on getting it back on the road. Well 20 something years go by and the small town gets hit by the now infamous "Twin Tornadoes" in Pilger Nebraska. During the Tornado, the front wall of the shop collapses and fall away from the Westfalia. One stubborn brick finds its way to the windshield and breaks it. The building is a total loss and the now pretty old owner hangs it up and closes shop. This is where I buy the Van and take it home.
Back to the Van. Like I mentioned the Westfalia has a salvage title due to the engine fire. The interior has absolutely no damage from it at all. Not even a smell. The mileage is actual and listed on the title. The fire damaged all the plastic and rubber parts in the engine compartment. Parts need to be replaced and the wiring redone. I did at one point by a replacement wire harness so that will be included. Or you could just convert it to carbs and replace a few less items that way.
It has been sitting for may years so all the brake lines and brake cylinders, fuel lines clutch lines and cylinders need replaced or rebuilt. I have a spare, new brake master cylinder I will include as well as a full manual. Remind me so I don't forget. These are typically things that need to get replaced on any used Vanagon to make them roadworthy. The passenger side engine vent was warped from the heat as shown in the pics.
This will make someone a great Westfalia with a little bit of work. Compared to some this is a real gem.
