1978 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia
1978 Volkswagen Type II Bus Westfalia Campmobile Camper Van - Champagne Edition IIThis is a very nice example of one of the only two-tone VW campers ever produced, built in 2/78 this bus has been lightly restored over the past 6 months but kept as original as possible. Driving this around you get people taking pictures of it all the time as well as stories of amazing trips they took in their '76 etc. Westy! This bus runs and drives very well and will cruise on the highway at 65 all day.
The main restoration work needed was repainting after almost 40 years of dings and scratches and sun, there is no serious rust/rot anywhere on the vehicle. The worst bits I can find is in the battery trays which is a common problem spot. Note the 2nd side mirror is missing in the pics but will be re-installed as soon as the proper plastic washer arrives.

It has a rare brown dash/interior, Ratwell has a listing of the brown parts on this interesting machine: http://www.ratwell.com/technical/ChampagneParts.html
Now this is a very nice original bus that drives very well and turns heads wherever it goes, but it is almost 40 years old! So there will always be things to fix on it. To be 100% transparent I had it independently evaluated and here is what I know is outstanding at this point:- Rear bumper has been dented in and fixed, looks a bit tatty, would need replacing or proper straightening/re-chroming- Right outer CV joint boot is torn- Left inner CV joint boot is torn- EGR canister pipe on left side leaks needs a little welding- Tires have some cracking due to age - but plenty of tread left- Fuel sender is intermittent, gauge only works part of the time- Odometer gear is broken and stuck at 70k, I know previous owner for last 10 years, so we have estimated the total mileage, (it was largely idle for a lot of the time)- Drivers door panel needs repair, the door card is cracked and won't hold the vent cover in (I will try to get a pic of this)- Needs a new leisure battery, this is only used by the fridge when on the road between campsites, has gone flat over the years
Clean title in hand, will get SMOG check completed Asap - passed last fall with flying colors.
