It is in outstanding condition and will make either a nice weekend driver or a collectible piece of music related memorabilia. This Ghia was once owned and maintained by the bass player for the band Green Day, Mike Dirnt. This Volkswagen comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Production/Fleet Manager for Green Day, Mr. Michael Manning. If that wasn’t enough, also included is a signed bass guitar by Mike Dirnt himself!
Volkswagen capitalized on the overwhelming popularity of their Beetle by following with a sporty sister, the Karmann Ghia. Produced from 1956 to 1974, the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia shared the Beetle’s reliable running gear, the response to the car’s introduction was so positive that it quickly became one of America’s most imported vehicles.
Finished in a brilliant Silver metallic, the finish shows extremely well with only minor imperfections upon close inspection. The front and rear chrome bumpers with overriders fit well and finish is exquisite. All trim pieces are present and have a great finish. The headlights, front turn signals, and taillights are in very good condition with no hazing or cracks.
Inside, this Volkswagen features Burgundy vinyl with light grey piping sport seats that look great. The rear seat has the same excellent upholstery. The Burgundy and grey door panels, carpet and dashboard are a continuation of the striking interior of this coupe and look fantastic. The original gauges have their correct location and appearance, however, the windshield wipers and fuel gauge are inoperable. The light grey headliner compliments the interior and is in good condition. The removable face JVC head-unit and original steering wheel are in very good condition and complete the interior.
This Karmann Ghia is equipped with a 1.5 liter flat 4-cylinder engine fed by dual Weber downdraft carburetors. Power is transferred to the rear wheels by a 4-speed manual transmission. Driver assist features include front disc and rear drum brakes. The 15-inch steel wheels are Silver and Burgundy with chrome VW center trim caps on Atlas wide whitewall tires.
