1964 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic
1964 Beetle**I am getting out of the hobby and I want to pass this car on to a true enthusiast that will appreciate it for what it is. **
This is a package deal with the car as explained below. I have other miscellaneous parts to go in the deal. I rescued this car from a barn 2 years ago. According to the serial number this is a very early 64. Therefore it has a pope's nose license plate light. The car had an amateur restoration in the mid or late 80's. The previous owner had painted the car a very faint blue color that you can only see in the right light. Otherwise it appears to be white. Paint is not great. Some cracking in the paint has lead to a small amount of surface rust but no rust through. The car still needed some assembly when I got it. I put it back together enough to make it a driver. Car has no rust through spots anywhere. There is some surface rust on the bottom of the floorboards and the front suspension as well. No rust through on the beam or frame horns in the rear. Channels are solid. Floors are solid except for under the battery. I think someone repaired it at one time and it holds the battery just fine. Fenders, oors, nd rear deck lid are solid. The front hood has a few rust spots where the metal barn roof leaked on it. Otherwise the car was not exposed to the elements directly. Glass is all good. Has 67 front seats but I have the correct ones. The 67 seats are in decent shape, here the original ones need completely redone. Back seat is ok but needs redone as well. Steering wheel is decent with very few small cracks. Newer door panels I installed that came with the car. Headliner is mostly still there but could use a good cleaning. Glass is not perfect but ok. Transmission shifts smoothly and does not pop out of gear. Clutch does not slip. 40 hp engine is tired, ut I have another one that the previous owner says he and his vw mechanic buddy rebuilt. Rebuilt carb. New wires. The current engine runs and can be driven, ut I think the exhaust is rusted and too much heat is getting up under the apron. There is some blistering of the paint due to the heat. This issue is figured in the price but quite frankly it just needs a muffler.
I have done the following :
Brand new tires
New brake cylinders
New master cylinder
New brake lines
New front brake spring kit (I have a new kit for the rear) the back ones were ok when I changed them
New 6 volt battery
New fuel line
New turn signal relay from Wolfsburg West
I have also added a new rear-view mirror, nd a driver's side mirror. I have a new passenger mirror and stud to go with it.
Brand new lap belts in the front, nd brand new seatbelts in the back with shoulder belts. Installed properly with the OEM hardware. I got the rear belts from Airhead Parts. They have the Wolfsburg crest on them.
I coated the inside floor pans and some of the rear parcel shelf with POR-15 paint.
Things that will need to be addressed by new owner:
The engine as mentioned above
Paint underside with POR-15
Replace axle boots
Address exhaust issue
The included engine does not appear to have any leaks, nd could probably be cleaned up and painted without an extreme amount of disassembly.
Car will require a complete restoration at some point but can be driven as is as well.
Car comes with the original window sticker, wner's manual, nd original blue manual folder.
Please understand that I know the market on these cars in this region. These cars are nearly impossible to find in this area of the country and if they are they are rusty and need extensive work. This is a solid car with lots of potential for a superior restoration. This is isn't California where the cars of this era are more plentiful. Therefore, he price reflects this part of the market of this era of pre 67 beetle. Shipping if needed is your responsibility.
Great winter project!
I plan to take more pics here soon. I just want to get it on the market at this point.
