Description:
1971 Triumph Spitfire
I purchased this 1971 Triumph Spitfire in 2018 and refurbished it over a period of one year. Work included rebuilding the 1.3-liter inline-four, repainting engine bay, repairing rust in the firewall and floor pan, overhauling the suspension and brakes, and installing a PerTronix ignition system, restoring the 4 speed transmission and rebuild of SU carbs. Additional equipment consists of a black soft top with a zipper window at the rear, Dual Hella horns, a luggage rack, 13″ alloy wheels, and a Sony CD player. This Spitfire is now offered with spare parts and a clean Nevada title in the seller’s name. The bodywork was repainted in red during previous ownership, and the front engine compartment was stripped to bare metal, and refinished during the refurbishment. The front of the frame was also painted black, and rust repairs were performed on the left side of the floor pan. Exterior details include a black convertible top, dual side mirrors, chrome bumpers, and a chrome luggage rack. The windshield wiper system was rebuilt. The hood needs to be adjusted and photos of paint imperfections are provided in the gallery.Minilite-style 13″ wheels wear Triumph center caps and are wrapped in 175/70 Toyo Eclipse tires. The suspension and brakes were overhauled during the refurbishment. Solid steering rack mounts and polyurethane suspension bushings were also installed.Aftermarket fixed-back bucket seats have been installed, and additional equipment includes a wood-rim steering wheel, a Sony CD player, and multicolor floor mats. There is a tear on the inner side of the driver’s seat. Both the speedometer and tachometer were replaced during the refurbishment and an Equus oil pressure gauge was added to the right side of the dashboard. The finish on the speedometer bezel is peeling. The five-digit odometer shows 5k miles, and the total chassis mileage is unknown. The 1.3-liter inline-four was rebuilt in 2019. The seller notes that the engine was bored .020″ over and that the cylinder head was also rebuilt. The dual SU carburetors were reportedly sourced from an earlier model Spitfire and rebuilt before installation. A PerTronix ignition system, electronic distributor, 45-watt alternator, and aftermarket spark plug wires are also fitted, and the seller notes that the fuel tank and fuel pump were replaced during the refurbishment. Two rust spots on the firewall have been repaired. The four-speed manual transmission was painted during the build, and the seller notes that the master and slave cylinders were replaced and an AP Racing clutch assembly was installed. This is a solid car has been on countless excursions in Nevada. Two sets of keys, lots of manuals, tire tool and jack along with a spare tire and tons of parts and maintenance notes. The wood steering wheel made by Moto Lito.Vehicle Details:
