Small Block Chevy V8, TH400 trans, runs, drives, stops, needs TLC.
1971 Triumph Stag Convertible w hardtop
This 1971 Triumph Stag is powered by a 5.7-liter Chevrolet V8 paired with a TH400 automatic transmission and was purchased by me in August 2019 from its previous owner in Illinois, who had reportedly stored it from 1995-2019. The drive train swap is believed to have been performed early in the car’s life, and the body wears an older repaint in Damsel red. I have recently serviced the fuel system and brakes, changed the fluids and hoses, and performed a tune-up. This Stag is offered with a factory hardtop, (no soft top) and receipts for recent service. Body is very good, nearly no rust, only rust present is on the front lower valance panel ($88 from Rimmer Bros) and some bubbling on the front lower wings below the bumper and one spot on the top of the right wing where it meets the header panel. Paint is driver quality with orange peal, chips scratches, etc. Very straight, never hit, no rust repairs ever. Floor and uni-body and trunk are excellent. Chrome is weak on the rear bumper, plus the rear bumper has some dents. All glass is present and in good shape. Power windows work. Interior is decent but shows some cracks in the dash pad and wood veneer. Seats are in good shape with a couple minor splits, Engine is very strong, makes no noises, no smoke, no leaks. Engine code comes back to 1973 350 4bbl, it is mated to what is probably the matching TH400 automatic trans. the Rochester Quadrajet has been dis-assembled and cleaned but still needs some work as there is a pretty good dead spot off idle. Brakes are nearly completely rebuilt and bleed but the vacuum booster may be bad, as it has a hard pedal. I haven't driven the car off my property due to the very old and cracked tires, so it hard to judge the brakes beyond this. Exhaust is true duals but mufflers are long gone and would need exhaust from the trans back Power steering rack is present but pump was eliminated during the engine swap. New repairs include: - New fuel pump and filters - Fuel tank cleaned and resealed - New points and condenser - New water pump - New thermostat - New master cyl - New calipers and pads - New wheel cyl's - New Brake hoses - New fluids and filters Items needed to drive as is: - New tires - Brake booster - Finish exhaust trans back - Sort out the lights and gauges - Add power steering if desired Running/walk around video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbVq1HnAsI0&feature=emb_logo I am offering this Stag for sale now as it is at a decision point. Some one could finish up the revival with the SBC V8, source and replace the GM unit with the correct Triumph V8, or maybe a Rover/Buick V8? I have hundreds of pictures and can provide you with pics of anything you could think of, just ask. The car is at my home on Newfield, ME. 04056 I will bring the car to my business in Wakefield, MA. 01880 to reduce shipping costs, but all are welcome to inspect the Stag at my home in Maine.
