1950 Triumph Other
You are looking at an exceptionally rare British vehicle withan astounding history and mountains of pedigree. This 1950 Triumph Mayflower, chassis number X488, license plate number JWK 612 is very likely the rarest car you may set eyes on this week just because it's a Mayflower...but that's just where it starts getting interesting. We are offering this rare Triumph at no reserve in this incredible opportunity to own a truly one of a kind motor car with a storied and well documented past.Starting life on March 20th, 1950, X488 was one of nine pre production prototypes touting daring and different new body lines from Standard Motor Company which came to be known as "razors edge". Clear styling ques from an Austin Princess or Rolls Royce were very apparent in this new addition to the British small car segment. This EXACT car (JWK 612) was used almost exclusively in a large majority of Triumph's road tests, dealership visits, photo-ops, brochures and factory literature including repair manuals and even a highly detailed scale model toy was made from it (please see pictures and feel free to zoom in).As is apparent from the pictures, which I tried very hard to be thorough with, this vehicle clearly will need a full restoration. It is Not running, Not driving and is missing small topical motor parts from the locked up 4 cylinder power plant. The original, right hand drive interior is in poor condition but does appear complete for the most part. The car rolls easily on its skinny, original 15" steel rims with original, double sided lug nuts.Rust. This car has Plenty of it. It's British. Inner and outer rockers, areas of the outer floor, small body mount areas including fender mounts, fender pinholes, lower door area, rear apron and inner fender wells...all will need attention. The very straight, nearly dent free body still shows both the prototype roadtest silver andmodel respray of black in areas not fully surface rusted. Correct RHD Lucas headlights are still in the fender buckets! Rear boot lid is missing both hinges and one handle, gas filler cap missing as seen in the pictures, AS ARE the fender mirrors AND Lucas fog light seen in these pictures. Glass is good for the most part, semiphore turn signals still have their stainless covers but no attempt has made to confirm their lenses or their operation. One rear light housing and fender mounting area was lightly damaged during a previous move but the glass lenses are both present and in good shape! Both front turn signals are missing. Bumpers are present and "attached" for pictures. Air cleaner assembly is not shown but present, as are 3 generator options and several other parts. Grill assembly is lightly attached but does have bottom damage and some bent bars. Car currently located in the foothills near the Fresno area of California's Central Valley. This car was featured in November issue of The Automobile Magazine, as seen in pictures. I am including a dealership picture (one of 7-8 I have found online) and a picture of the roadtest publication for your viewing pleasure. I hold clear title in my name, which is the first American paperwork provided for this car despite being here since arriving in the early 1960's. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.Vehicle Details:
