We are pleased to offer this beautiful and very rare 1981 Triumph TR8 Convertible This very original car is finished in rare Aran Beige with Tan velour interior. The original Bill of Sale shows it was purchased new in California for $20,000. There were only 352 of these fuel-injected TR8’s imported into the US in 1981. In 1991 it was purchased by a local enthusiast from Ohio during a visit to California He owned the car in Ohio for 22 years from 1991 to 2013 when it was passed on to his son. Unfortunately his son is 6’-7” and just cannot fit in the car so after 3 years of sitting in the garage he has reluctantly decided to sell it to someone who can enjoy it.

CONDITION
The car is in great condition showing very minor wear for its age and mileage. It is mostly original, never wrecked or modified or abused. It has a nice set of aftermarket wheels painted to match the body currently on the car in addition to the original wheels. Please take the time to look at all the high resolutions pics on the Flickr link to see how nice the car’s condition is. It has never been in the salt, hardly ever in the rain and as such has absolutely zero rust issues. The paint has very few flaws with the exception of a spot on the rear of the trunk which has been rubbed through. The fabric on the velour seats is a little loose but is great otherwise. No cracks in the dash. Nice original top and boot. It has always been enthusiast owned. The trunk contains memorabilia documenting some of the shows it participated in both in California and Ohio throughout the years.
DRIVING IMPRESSIONS
Even though I am a long-time Triumph enthusiast, this was my first time driving a TR8. I can see why these cars have such a loyal following. The engine is absolutely what makes it special but the ride and handling feels so much more modern than the earlier TR’s. It’s also surprisingly roomy inside. The clutch and steering are not heavy and the 5 speed transmission is a huge improvement over the older 4 speeds. Everything performed as it should except the brake pedal effort was a little greater than I expected. The electrical system operation checked out fine which isn’t always the case on British cars.
RECENT SERVICE/INSPECTION
The car has been thoroughly inspected and serviced by Layland Motors in Canton, OH. They are the area’s best independent European car shop having worked on British cars since the 70’s. Please see their website at www.laylandmotors.com for information on them. Feel free to contact them directly to get a detailed professional opinion about the car. They performed an oil/filter change, brake fluid and coolant change and replaced the belts and battery. Items they advise will need attention in the future are a small exhaust hole at the rear of the driver’s side muffler, slight leaking of power steering fluid, and replacement of the fuel hoses.

We can recommend local places and provide you with options for your inspection if desired. We will also bring the car to the local inspection location free of charge. HOWEVER, All appointments must be made and payment method arranged prior to us delivering the car to the inspecting location.
