For sale in our Detroit showroom is this Great 1979 Triumph Spitfire 1500. The Triumph Spitfire was originally designed to compete in the small sports car market and to compete with the Austin Healy Sprite and Triumph's idea was to use their small saloon the mechanicals from their small model the Herald as a foundation for the new project. The Triumph had one big advantage over its competition where the Austin Healy was of unitary construction, the Herald featured a separate chassis. This particular Spitfire is a beautiful fully restored example of the Triumph that spent most of its time in the south in Georgia and has never had any rust or required any body repairs. In 2002 the car was stripped and given a fresh repaint in Jaguar British Racing Green that has been well maintained and looks just as good as when it was first completed. In 2012 the engine was completely rebuilt which was professionally done including a high performance cam, 1.5" dual euro spec HS4 carbs, and new header which greatly increased the power rating and still has just over 6,000 miles on the rebuild today. In just the last 2 years much has been improved on this great little convertible including a completely new brake system with slotted rotors up front and new master cylinder, new quick ratio steering rack, new axle shaft and drive flange, new radial tires, a new street roll bar, new ignition system, new fuel pump, and a new oversized radiator with electric fan and Kevlar hoses. The interior of this Triumph look fantastic as well with the original wood dash panel, the black leather that is in flawless condition, a new carpet kit, and even has a new Pioneer Bluetooth stereo system with some great sounding speakers to match. This Triumph is a great little car that is a blast to drive and with such low mileage since being fully restored will need nothing more than regular maintenance to continue to be a fun toy for many years to come.
