1988 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6
1988 Toyota 4Runner VN66 SR5
This 1988 Toyota 4Runner SR5 spent most of its life in the Houston and Austin, Texas areas, before being stored in Oklahoma for the last five years. It is now back in Texas since being acquired by me in July of this year. Subsequent work consisted of cleaning the truck, replacing the battery, alternator, front and rear bumpers, wipers, and intake hose. a 3.0-liter 3VZ-E V6 linked with a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case, the truck is finished in white over gray cloth. It has a black removable hardtop, 15″ alloy wheels, a sunroof, rear seats, cruise control, air conditioning, and a Sony CD stereo head unit
The truck features white paint with contrasting black graphics on the sides. Additional exterior details include a black removable hardtop sprayed with 2-part truck bed liner, sunroof, chrome-plated front bumper, chrome-wrapped fiberglass rear bumper, dual side power mirrors, front and rear splash guards, rear wiper, and a receiver hitch. There are some paint flaws from apparently the polishing compound. Photos of the paint condition are provided in the gallery, and I have provided many more close-up photos at the link. The sunroof is cracked and the windshield has minor chips.
The 15″ Toyota Offset 8 alloy wheels are mounted with 235/75 Uniroyal All-Terrain Radial tires. The tires have good tread, but there are signs of age and wear. The truck is equipped with power steering and Warn manually locking front hubs. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the truck features a Hi-Trac independent front suspension.
The interior features front bucket seats and a folding rear bench trimmed in gray cloth upholstery with patterned inserts. Amenities include a four-point roll bar, a carpeted dashboard mat, air conditioning, cruise control, a Quartz digital clock, a Sony CD stereo, and power windows, mirrors, and door locks. The seat tracks were cleaned, and climate control panel was replaced. The rear cargo area has been sprayed with 2-part truck bed liner, as well as the door panels, mid panels, and rear panels. There are cracks in the trim below the rear windows and around the shifter, and splits are in the rear headliner, sunroof cover, and inner side of the rear seat cushions. The A/C blows cool, but needs further analysis.
A two-spoke steering wheel frames a 110-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,800-rpm redline as well as supplementary gauges. The fuel gauge is inoperable. The six-digit odometer shows 194k miles, approximately 100 of which were added since I’ve owned it.
The fuel-injected 3.0L 3VZ-E V6 was factory rated at 145 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. The battery, alternator, and intake hose were replaced in September 2024.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case.
