Description:

1994 Toyota Land Cruiser DJ81

Several years of restoration here in this rig!
We purchased it for our family a few years back, but it dropped a bearing in the low end and grenaded the motor, actually on the way home from buying it if you can believe it! I've been a huge land cruiser fan over the years though, and I couldn't bring myself to put her down... so the process began.
A factory correct Toyota 1994 long block was located and shipped out from Cruiser Parts in NH. It was a motor with less than 180k miles on it, that showed good compression numbers ; Cylinder 1 @ 190, 2 @ 190, 3 @ 185, 4 @ 180, 5 @ 185, 6 @ 180.
Upon arrival, it was professionally stripped, machined and rebuilt. All new seals, belts, hoses, gaskets, o rings, etc... During the motor swap, I also had the alternator, radiator, exhaust gaskets and all associated hoses, replaced with new. Please see attached photos of the work order/receipt.
Since the motor replacement we've put a couple hundred miles on it, and given it a fresh oil change to check for any metal or shaving. All looked good. The check engine light does go on and off, but that was determined to be part of the EGR which was disconnected during the replacement.
The interior is in great shape (with the exepcection of the wood veneer trim in some places, ie: faded, cracked), but the cloth condition and the 3rd row seats is why we decided to invest in bringing the old girl back. A bluetooth stereo system with kicker speakers was installed professional by Progressive Audio. That now allows for phone pairing, calls, streaming pandora, etc... At that time I also had them add keyless entry.
The paint is also all new! Rig was originally green, so we went back to the factory color. An auto body shop in Medford that I've had good luck with in the past did the job, and I'd say it's very very good to excellent. Not concourse, but fresh and looks great. The fender flare gaskets were unfortunately painted over because they didn't arrive in time... but I do have them, and they will be included with the sale if you want to replace them. No body damage or rust to really speak of. Underneath of rig looks great. It is wired for towing, and has a standard 2" hitch.
The rack you see on the top is a brand new aluminum w/grey powder coat from Iron Man 4x4.
Tires are Toyo, with what I would estimate to be around 5k miles on them. They're still new enough that Les Schwab just sipped them for me this winter. Just drove it up to the ski mountain last week in fact, and it did great. Gas mileage as you probably already know isn't great with these rigs... around 10 to 12 mph. But you buy them because they're heavy, built like a tank, and you can fill them with kids on the way to soccer or skiing without worrying about safety.
We're only selling because our oldest is off to College and we just bought a pair of Rav 4's, one for him and one for my wife.
List of what was replaced and cost:- Refurbished Motor from Cruiser Parts, LLC $2500 plus shipping- Siskiyou Import Services - Motor install, rebuild, radiator, all hoses, gaskets, seals, o-rings, fluids $7,457.64- Siskiyou Import Services - first oil change, system check, engine light diagnosis $198.42- Stereo system Install progressive audio $1100- Rack from Iron Man 4x4 $750- New paint job (bigger hammer auto body) $4500- Misc parts that will be included in sale (new antenna, fender flare gaskets, replacement rear seat belt) $400- New Windshield and gaskets $100 insurance deductible
So there it is. All in the repair/refurbish costs were $17,006.06
If I were going to keep at it, I'd replace the wood trim kit inside (I had one on order, but gave up after waiting through 6 months of backorder), replace the antenna which was broken off ( a replacement is included) and change out the rear seat belt that a dog chewed. (a replacement is also included for that). I had dreams of a winch bumper as well, but hey... now I'm a hybrid guy I guess!
Automatic, A/C blows cold, Rear Heat, new windshield and all wipers, power windows and door locks, single locking diff., and moonroof! (works great)
I'd love to see the old girl go to a good home, so let's start the bidding at what I have into the refurb! If it sells for that, you just got the base rig cost for nothing. Car is sold as is, where is.. .but I've sold and shipped several cars over the years. Happy to meet a car shipper and help load, our old Scout Traveler II was sold here on eBay and went smoothly.
Car isowned outright, title is in hand
