1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ 40 4WD Chevy 350 4 Speed

Beautifully restored and upgraded 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40 powered by a Chevrolet 350 c.i. V-8!! This FJ-40 has had a total frame-off build professionally performed by M & M Custom Autos and 4WD of Sicklersville, NJ. New parts were used throughout. This 3-year build was completed in 2017 and only driven approximately 1,000 miles. It has always been garage kept and never driven off road. Receipts for most of the parts and work performed are included.

The original steel body, hood, and fenders were sandblasted before the 2-stage Cadillac Silver urethane was applied. There appears to be no evidence of replacement panels or bodywork anywhere. Both the underneath and interior floors have been coated with a Rhino liner material to prevent rusting and chipping. Every exterior piece of trim was replaced so the Toyota looks new.

The interior is new throughout, with new factory style seats and 4-point shoulder harnesses. Also new pedal assemblies and linkage was installed for the clutch, brake, and accelerator. New wiring harnesses throughout including ones for the Sony stereo/CD/USB player with 4 speakers (including 2 mounted on the roll cage) and the extra lights front and back. The Metal Tech roll cage was powder coated before installation and includes safety side bars for the doors which latches that lock. Factory gauges all function as well as the aftermarket Autometer oil pressure, voltmeter, and water temperature gauges. Rear jump seats are included.

The engine is a rebuilt stock 1978 350 Chevrolet V-8 rated at about 250 h.p. with a Holley 670 cfm Truck Avenger carburetor for hill climbing. The clutch pack, transmission and transfer case were all rebuilt. A custom aluminum radiator with a thermostatically controlled fan keeps everything cool. Block hugger shorty headers connect to a 2 ½” exhaust dual exhaust system with twin catalytic convertors.

The frame was also sandblasted and then powder coated before the chassis was reassembled using a new power brake system (disc front & drums rear), MAF Saginaw power steering, new shackles, springs, shocks, fuel tank & lines, body mounts, chassis bumpers, etc. The front differential uses a Spartan locker with 4.11:1 gears where the rear is an Auburn posi-traction unit with the same ratio. Fifteen-inch Polished American racing wheels with Interco Super Swamper 33x12.5/50R/15 tires all the way around give the Toyota and aggressive look.

Please note this FJ-40 does NOT include a hardtop or metal doors. Only the soft top with side curtains and frames are included. Also the engine noise in the video was due to the air cleaner not being tightened to the carburetor.
