1988 Toyota MR2 Supercharged
I purchased this 1988 Supercharged Toyota MR2 right off the showroom floor and it has spent all of its time in North Central California. The car is powered by a supercharged and intercooled 1.6-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and is finished in white over blue cloth. Additional equipment includes front and rear spoilers, removable locking glass T-top panels, and rear mud flaps. This supercharged MR2 has 208k miles and is offered with original T-top storage bags, manual, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in White with contrasting black trim, and exterior details include pop-up headlights, a quarter panel air intake, front and rear spoilers, removable glass T-top panels, MR2-branded rear mud flaps, and a polished twin-tip exhaust outlet. Paint imperfections are depicted in the gallery below.
Factory 14″ tear-drop alloy wheels are wrapped in 185/60 GT Radial OHTSU tires which were mounted in 2018.The car is equipped with a four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes at all four corners.
The cabin features blue cloth seat upholstery as well as matching carpets and door panel inserts.
A blue leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 150-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 7,500-rpm redline, and gauges for oil temperature, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level.
The supercharged and intercooled 1.6-liter 4A-GZE inline-four was factory rated at 145 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque. The battery was replaced in 2021 and an oil change was performed in February 2022.
Pros:
·Original owner.
·No accidents.
·All original - no after market modifications.
·Runs good and passes smog.
·Tires are good.
·Automatic Transmission – perfect in traffic.
·Locking glass T-top comes on and off very easy.
Cons:
·The factory white paint is original, along with the factory applied Permaplate. The Permaplate coating has peeled off on parts of the exterior body.
·The drivers-side front corner panel has a dent caused by a runway shopping cart at our local grocery store. I was able to pushout most of the dent, but a proper job will have to be done to bring the car back to a like new state.
·Over all, the car needs minor body work and a complete respray.
·The air conditioner does not work.
·The cruise control plastic control switch broke(sun). Prior to the switch breaking, the cruise control worked.
·The interior dashboard has sun damage, cracking, from the California sun. We installed an OEM dash mat to cover the cracks in the dash.
·The ash tray is missing.
·Both floor mats are very worn, but the drivers-side floor mat is (as expected) far more worn.
·Front steering is loose.
·The interior center console, where the transmission shifter is, has a clear shell to cover the P R N D letters. This cracked and disintegrated from the sun. We still have the letters, but the clear shell would need to be replaced.
·The car is equipped with an aftermarket CD radio. The speakers are small, so the sound is very basic.
·One of the two glass T-top sun-shields has a small plastic knob to lock the sun shield in place (above your head). One of the parts to this lock needs to be replaced – a small plastic shaft. Currently, the sun shield stays in place with pressure from the visor.
