Description:

1981 Toyota Pickup

This fantastic little classic was gifted to me by a family friend. He purchased it ages ago as an independent dealer and never got around to fixing it up. As the new owner, I've spent a considerable amount of time fixing it up and getting it running again, and replacing many, many parts.

This particular truck has a rare factory sunroof and rare factory air conditioning! These were special order features at the time - so kind of a rare find here.

It also features bucket seats, 5-speed manual transmission, shoulder and lap seat belts, rear sliding window, oil pressure gauge, charging gauge, tachometer, and intermittent wipers.

It was originally purchased on a Salvage title due to a bent fender and dented rear quarter panel - which have been repaired. Current title is rebuilt from salvage. Odometer shows 37k, but I have no way of knowing if that's correct as the previous title showed "0". There are still a few dents and dings, but overall it's in solid condition. I see a little bit of surface rust in the bed, but it's still solid with no holes that I can see. The complete head was replaced due to a stuck/bent #4 intake valve. I suppose I could have just replaced the valve, but a new complete head was cheap enough, and figured new valves and cam would add a lot of life to the engine going forward.

Parts that have been replaced:

- Rebuilt (Sunbelt) Complete Engine Head with new valves and cam.

- New head gasket.

- New exhaust and intake gaskets.

- New complete rocker rack

- New carburetor.

- New spark plugs.

- New fuel pump.

- New water pump.

- New oil pan gasket.

- New gas tank and fuel quantity sender

- New (rebuilt) EGR valve and vacuum control

- Four new tires

- New turn signals, rear lights

- New RH mirror

- New gas cap

- New Castrol engine oil

- New coolant

- New engine drive belts

Current Known Defects:

We are located at 7k ft above sea level, so this new carb is having a lot of trouble idling smoothly, and is running rich. I think it needs a re-jet if it stays local, but lower altitudes should run leaner and smoother. The gasket on the new water pump is leaking a bit. I must have missed a chunk of old gasket or something. So, needs another (better) gasket eventually. Some of the original fuel lines were clogged, so they've been bypassed with rubber fuel tubing to the new tank. Functions great now. Fuel quantity sender is new but a little sticky. Might just need to wear in a bit. Passenger seat has some wear(see photos). RH side under passenger door has a good ding (see photos). Radio is present, but not installed. Latch on the rear sliding window is broken. If I was keeping this, I'd probably replace the shocks with something stiffer to enable more cargo hauling - kind of soft now. The driver door lock knob hangs up sometimes and won't lock intermittently. A couple of instrument knobs are missing. LH door speaker is missing. A/C system needs charging. Spare tire should be replaced. Some of the original body stickers are missing. I'm sure I missed other minor stuff, but it's a classic car, so will always need a little TLC.
