Description:

1984 Toyota Tacoma Sr5

This 1984 Toyota SR5 4×4 pickup was sold new by Florin Road Toyota in Sacramento, California and purchased by the my aunt in 1986 who owned it until 2013 when I bought it. The truck is finished in blue and white over a gray and blue cloth interior, and a carbureted 2.4-liter 22R inline-four is paired with a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Features include a camper shell, a 2″ suspension lift, Bilstein shock absorbers, a sunroof, air conditioning, and a factory stereo with an equalizer. During my ownership, the brakes and suspension have been serviced, the valves have been adjusted, and the timing belt, water pump, and air conditioning components have been replaced. This Toyota pickup shows just over 108k miles and is offered with manufacturer’s literature, warranty paperwork from 1983, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title in my name.

The truck is finished in Medium Blue/White (2M2) and features chrome bumpers and trim as well as a sunroof, a sliding rear window, a power antenna, and a Gem Top camper shell. There are notes rust is present in the bed and on a pinch weld near the left quarter panel. A walk-around video has been provided.

Chrome 15″ wheels are mounted over manually locking front hubs and wear 31 x 10.50″ BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires. The suspension has been lifted with aftermarket rear shackles and Bilstein 5100 monotube gas shock absorbers. A brake master cylinder from a V6 model, vented rotors from an FJ80, and stainless steel brake lines have been installed. The axle seals, wheel bearings, brake pads, and rear wheel cylinders were replaced in 2018.

The cab is equipped with bucket seats trimmed in gray cloth with light blue patterned inserts along with two-tone door panels and a blue dashboard. Additional amenities include electric windows, air conditioning, and a factory stereo with an equalizer and aftermarket LED lighting. The air conditioning system utilizes R12 refrigerant, and the receiver drier, compressor, evaporator valve, hoses, and belt have been replaced. Videos of the interior and the climate control in operation have been provided.

Instrumentation consists of an 85-mph speedometer and a tachometer along with gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows just over 108k miles, of which approximately 5k miles that i have put on myself . Multiple cracks can be seen on the top of the dashboard.

The carbureted 2.4-liter 22R inline-four was rated at 97 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 128 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 rpm when new. The following work has been performed between 2018 and 2020:

  • Valve adjustment
  • Replacement timing chain, guides, and camshaft gear
  • Replacement water pump and coolant hoses
  • Replacement radiator, fan and fan clutch
  • New distributor, coil, ignition wires, and spark plugs
  • Billet camshaft seals installed
  • Replacement accessory belts and tensioner pulley bearing
  • New oil pan seal
  • 2¼ mandrel-bent cat-back exhaust system with a Magnaflow muffler installed
Power is delivered to the rear or all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The trunnion bearings, transfer case output seals, differential seals, and axle breathers have also been replaced. I have provided videos of the engine bay and the underside.Manufacturer's literature, warranty paperwork from the original owner, and service records dating back to the late 1980s are included in the sale. The August 2020 Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in California through the latest entry in December 2019.
