1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40
Helloand thanks for taking the time to view my listing. This 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is an absolutely gorgeous example of a factory FreeBorn Red example with only 27,016 miles at the time these photos were taken. This FJ40 has spent it's life in North Mississippi and retains all of itsoriginal body panels. Those original body panels carry zero rust along with them. The wheels are shod with BFGoodrich Duratrac that are in very good condition and the wheels have been color matched to the roof and the oem front grille. The FreeBorn Red paint shines as new and although this FJ40 has been drivensparingly since it's refresh, there are very few imperfections to be found throughout. Below, I'll try to describe this FJ40 to the very best of my ability.
Exterior
The exterior was repainted in its original (born with) color FreeBorn Red. The body is very straight and has never been subjected to a harshclimate, nor has it spent any excessive timeoutside. It has been stored inthe garage during the time itwasn't being used. It's obvious that it has been very well cared for and the closer you look at it, but better it becomes. The fenders, hood, doors, top, and all other body panels are very straight and excellent. The hood has a verysmall amount of rock pecks that have been touched up during thecleanup before these pictures were taken. The headlights andfoglight are oem genuine Toyota brand and are newnos condition. The winch was sold on this FJ in 1978 as a dealer installed option. It too has been rebuilt and operates flawlessly, just as it should. The rear tub has zero rust in it and has beenresprayed FreeBorn Red inside and out. I shouldmention that unlike most, the rear tub is original to this FJ and has never rusted out. This exterior refresh alone was over $20,000 and all original panels were used. Also, this FJstill retains all of its original glass besides the windshield which I replaced a few months ago due to a rock peck spreading. You'll find the TEQ in all of therest of the glass. Here is a brief list of what has been done to the exterior:

• Rebuilt the hard top: stripped down to bare metal, welded where necessary, primed and professionally painted to match the wheels and front grille.

• All window rubber seals replaced with new OEM Toyota seals

• Refinished fiberglass top shell, all rain gutter metal in great shape, primed and painted

• Rebuilt ambulance and front doors in the same way as hard top: stripped to bare metal, welded to strengthen, primed, and painted.

• Body was taken down to bare metal and reinforced where the factory should have welded it.

• Added Toyota Skid plate

• Rebuilt 8274 Warn winch (original 70's model)

• Custom winch bumper

• Winch control in dashboard

The Interior
The interior looks as if you're looking at this FJ brand new in 1978......as if you were on the show room floor. Upon first glance, you'll immediately notice the original gauges, the original seat covers (purchased/installed NOS seat covers), the original paint on the dash (dash has never been resprayed), the original jump seats in the rear, the original heaters in the front and back, and an original NOS oem dash are all absolutelybeautiful. The center switches are after aftermarketobviously and are mounted right above the center heater. These have been there forover 25 years. The red flight switch engages the front winch and the up and downswitch to the left of it controls the direction the winch pulls the tow hook. The otherswitches controls lights throughout. The bottom mat is a full floor covering and looks phenomenal. It was an expensive upgrade, but it beatshaving ugly aftermarket mats or worn out original ones. Here is an itemized list of what has been done to the interior:

• Installed custom headliner and custom rubber seals between hardtop and body and top shell and sides

• Rebuilt all dash switches

• Custom radio delete plate with winch controls, interior dash lighting control, radio and CB on off switch (no radio or CB installed at this time)

• Re-upolstered OEM front seats with powder coated seat mounts.

• Short folding jump seats in back with seat belts

• Installed rear heater with separate controls

Underneath
Underneath you'll find an awesome Ole Man Emu suspension setup. It is a mild lift, but doesinclude full suspension replacement. OME leaf springs support the truck while the OME steering stabilizer keeps you straight on the road. The OME shocks and bushings are all in great shape as well and look as new under this FJ. The axles, warn hubs, bearings, bushings, and lines have all been either replaced or rebuilt. It is excellent underneath and as reliable as can be. It has been rebuilt with just about the best the market has to offer and it feels great going down the road. Itdoesn't have a rough ride, nor is it unpleasant by any means. This is a very fun and comfortable FJ that can be daily driven if desired. So, to recap, here is a list of things done underneath this FJ:

• Old Man Emu suspension parts installed include:

• ARB Old Man Emu (OME) / Dakar Leaf Springs, greasable Shackles and Pins front and rear, all new U-bolts

Drivetrain
The driveline is still the factory 4.2L 2F inline six cylinder that has always been there. It has just been refreshed and is as strong as ever. There was no modified camshaft or anything installed that would make it less reliable. It was a factory style refresh centered around reliability anddrivability. The transmission was refreshed and the clutch replaced along with refreshing both differentials with new parts and fluid. This beautiful FJ40 needs nothing, but a new driver. Here is a list of what has been done to the engine and under the hood:
