Description:

1965 Toyota Land Cruiser

1965 FJ45 SWB Pickup Truck. Removable hardtop. Mid 1980's FJ60 running gear. Power steering is first generation 4-Runner with smaller pulley for higher speed pumping to handle larger tires. 4 Wheel power disc brakes. Vacuum booster is late FJ40, front calipers and rotors are FJ60, and rear calipers and rotors are chevy truck. Old Man Emu suspension. Custom built steel 16" wheels to accommodate later model FJ40 hubcaps and reasonable 16" tires. Power seat is early 2000's Buick leather, and it is power. Also has matching lighted vanity visors (wife's truck). Custom fuel tank, about 29 gallons, is located where the original spare tire rested.
Runs and drives great. Known problems: (1) Windshield wipers are dysfunctional. (2) Fuel gauge is dysfuntional (suspect custom sending unit came apart inside the tank, but don't know that). (3) Air Conditioning is a bunch of air conditioning parts, but has never worked right. Last guesstimation had to do with idea that the high pressure cutoff switch was mounted on the wrong side of the system, OR, was just a dysfyntional switch mounted where it belongs in the system, but not working right for some other reason. Net result is that the system overloads the pressure and "powders" the power steering belt -- it has to be adjusted every 500 miles and replaced every 1,500 miles or so -- so I removed the belt and skipped the air conditioning.
The truck has had about 10,000 miles put on it in the past 10 years, since the massive mechanical renovation was completed by Jim Chenoweth of TLC Performance in Lancaster, Ohio.
We've owned it about 25 years. We bought it from the son of the original owner. The original owner bought it in 1966 in Alaska, for pipeline work. He was injured shortly after he bought it and he and the truck returned to his family rannch in Northern Nevada, where we bought it 25 years ago. I have no paperwork to document any of this history. The VIN number is correct for suggesting a Japanese build in the last quarter of 1964, for import to the USA for sale as a 1965 model truck.
Bidders encouraged to come see, bid accordingly, and take it home.

2 afterthought disclosures. I've lived with these issues so long I forget to note them. (1) /the parking brake is FJ40 driveline style but does not work because the cable is too long. Needs a custom shorter cable made. (2) These photos don't accurately reflect the poor status of the paint job. The truck needs an entire paint job. We paid for a much better paint job than we got, and that was about 20 years ago. It hasn't gotten any better in the meantime. The only reason it has survived to the extent that it has is that the truck has been garaged 99% of the time since the paint job. Under normal use, it would have demanded a repaint 10-15 years ago. It needs repaint now.

Also, if you send a phone number I can text a brief video of the truck running and driving. I will not bother or solicit you about anything else.
