1971 Toyota Land Cruiser

You are looking at a NO RESERVE auction for my 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40.These are, by far, the most iconic production-vehicle Toyota Motor Corporation has ever built. They changed little in the 30 years this model was made. This is one of the more desirable years for the FJ-Series. They have a removable top & doors & flip-down windshield for open-air driving fun, 4x4 go-anywhere capability, and rugged good looks that are second-to-none!You canfind a whole array of aftermarket soft-top configurations, or even a factory FJ-45 hard-top pickup half-cab for this vehicle; making it a very versatile 4x4, convertible, SUV or pickupcombo. They feature a 3.9 liter, overhead-valve inline 6 cylinder engine, rugged frame-on-body construction & solid front & rear axles with sealed-ball type u-joints so you can cross creeks & rivers without having to re-pack your wheel-bearings with grease.

One might not guess it from their relatively small size, but these rigs are built really tough!Even with their relatively short wheel-base, they handle much better than CJ Jeeps on loose gravel roads & such and are not as squirrely in my experience.Land Cruisers have been used in Safari Expeditions all around the World for the past 60+ years, and have tried & true off-road capability & dependability! With 11 windows, there are really no blind-spots in these rigs. This one remains mostly stock original, but with a few modern upgrades, including custom front & rear bumpers, rock-sliders to protect the running-boards, and many parts of the body protected with diamond-plating & ultra-rugged hard, textured bedliner-coating.

This vehicle has 106,381 miles on it, and features power brakes, & dual heaters (one in front, and one in the rear). The dash switches and levers are all still intact which is pretty uncommon for these vehicles. Most all the lights work, but there is one taillight out (probably just a burned out bulb, but I haven't looked into it).The engine runs very smoothly and doesn't exhibit any smoke, ticks, knocks or extra noises. It has newer exhaust as you can see in some of the pictures. There's a new alternator, and new belt/hoses. The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears just as it should, and the vehicle drives excellently down the road without slop or play in the steering/suspension components. The four-wheel-drive transfer-case works great, and there are lockout hubson the front axle (for free-wheeling when not in use to save on fuel). The brakes will stop the vehicle well enough for a test-drive, but please note that the brake wheel-cylinders need to be rebuilt or replaced before it could be driven a significant distance. If it weren't for that, I'd honestly say you could probably drive this vehicle anywhere on the Continent at a moment's notice. My only excuse is that I simply haven't gotten around to addressing it, as I'm raising a young family plus we have 15 other vehicles in the back yard.

The interior is in nice condition with only a couple of small rips on the center front seat-back pad.It also features fold-down rear jump-seats which are handy for adding passenger capacity. You could put 5 adults in here comfortably, or if it were kids in the back, maybe as many as 7 people (two kids on each jump-seat).A full roll-cage was installed in addition to the factory roll-bar for added safety. All the glass is good, with no chips or cracks. The entire rear floorpan as well as rocker-panels, wheel-wells, and quarter-panels were all replaced some years ago with much thicker, heavier-gauge steel, and the whole vehicle is rock-solid now, showing no rust.It was very recently painted, and the body looks very nice, free of dents and scratches. It's got 5 new tires, and I even fabricated a nifty adapter to mate the factory FJ-40 dog-dish hubcaps to these aftermarket wide steel wheels (which I can provide a photo of if anyone is interested in a more stock appearance).I had planned to make 5 of them, but only got one completed, so I just photographed the vehicle with the wheels as they are.

So many FJ-40s have been hacked up & altered with gas-sucking Chevy V8s & the like. This one has a few tasteful custom mods, but remains mostly original, and nothing has been done to it that couldn't be put back to stock if you're an originality purist. I've priced it very competitively, and cheaper than most other comparable examples I've seen out there. Despite being 47 years old, and not a 100-point show vehicle... it's a very decent daily driver that looks & runs fantastic. It's a vehicle that you can be proud to drive, and will definitely get lots of compliments everywhere you go with it!There are a lot of very good reasons people love these rigs! It's a highly collectible, iconic, classic 4x4 built with Toyota quality.
